Beautiful retro look, but tricky to install!
This is an LED replacement/upgrade for the original Grote clearance lamps on my Bluebird bus. When lit, they cast a warm, bright light that is definitely more visible than the originals. Overall, I really wanted to give these a 5-star, but I'll explain why I didn't.The originals were mounted to the hull with a #10 or #12 screw, which has a typical head size of a little over 1/4". The holes on these new lamps are so small that I ended up having to use an M3 machine bolt, which has a much smaller head, barely 3/16". That was the only thing I could find where the head would fit all the way down inside the plastic hole that these are made with, to mount to the surface. The much smaller head puts a lot of pressure on the plastic over a smaller surface area, so you can't tighten it down too much. That means a looser fit, which means possible leaks.Additionally, I had one of these fail when the outer plastic shell just pulled away from the inner shell, probably due to flexing when screwing down. Another unit just failed after a few weeks in light use -- the LED board somehow stopped working. All in all, these are fairly cheap, and once you get them on, they look great. My vehicle only needed about a dozen of them, so it was a good upgrade that I'm happy with. Just a bit of extra work needed to get it done right, which might have been unnecessary if the manufacturer had designed these with sufficiently-wide mounting holes.

Not a great replacement for the older incandescent style.
I bought these to replace the original Grote brand clearance lights on my 1986 Bluebird bus. The first problem I had is that the mounting holes in these are for tiny #6 screws, (their website says they take #8, but those only fit about halfway into the depth of the lense hole) the incandescent style were mounted with #10, meaning that I had to either nut the #6 screws on the inside or grind the #10 screw heads way down to fit into the lense. The other problem I have is that the led lights seem to be a very directional design. All but one of the LEDs inside are pointed straight out the wide "front" of the light, with just one pointing out the face of the lense. This means that for the factory lights mounted on the front of my bus with the wide face of the light pointing up, all but one led are pointing up to the sky making them very dim.
