Q: what is the difference between full size and heat resistant

It is UV resistant, it is a great feature in the desert where I live, Highly recommend for heat.

Q: Can this rain gauge be left out in winter snow without damage?

If you leave it out you should just leave the big container and when it rains or snows you can measure it with the small tube

Q: Can anyone compare this model to the standard (and $20 less expensive) one?

From what I can see, they are identical.

Q: Will it break in freezing weather?

Yes, it can if water is still in it. But I will say that I've had time when the water froze and it didn't break. It depends on how habitual you are at dumping out the rain.

Precise and very Weather Resistant

I had one of these for about 10 years. It finally gave out due to the hot, strong Florida sun. So this is a replacement and I hope it lasts for another 10 years. Good Product!

Can I get a new measuring tube........

The measuring tube has a crack near the base about 1.5 ( inch and half) long unit is unable to hold water long enough to get accurate reading.
