Lyman 2660429 358429 DC Mould 38/357 170 Grains

I have many Lyman moulds and this is one is typical of their quality, which is very good.Using an alloy of 92% lead, 6% Antimony and 2% tin this bullet drops at about 166 grains from mine after lube and size (I usually use .358" and Thompson's Blue Angel)I found my mould liked to have a bit of fill pressure during the pour to properly fill out the base, which I had no trouble doing using my RCBS lead ladle.Using a load consisting of new WW cases, a CCI small magnum pistol primer and 16 grains of LilGun, 6 shots averaged 1295 fps from my 4" S&W 686-6, while the same load from my 6" barrel Ruger Security Six averaged at 1484 fps. This is outstanding ballistic performance from this weight bullet using a load that is still shy of published max (Hodgdon lists 17 grains max for this bullet using LilGun).Accuracy was very good and this bullet can out-shoot me. When I did my part I had no problem keeping 6 shots from 25 yards in the black of a slow fire pistol target. Leading was minimal and no more than trace amounts.Caveat if you've never used this bullet: it is very long above the crimp groove in order to maximize case capacity and it may not fully seat in older S&W's and Ruger's with shorter throats. If that's the case you have the option of either crimping over the front driving band or working up your loads up in .38 Special cases. In my 686-6 and Ruger Security Six they sat nearly out to the end of the cylinder when crimped at the tapered crimp groove, but I had zero issues with them in either gun.

Lyman 358429 mould. B Each bullet falls out at 169 & 1/2 grains. With lube they are exactly 170 grains. My 357 magnum shoots 1/2 inch groups with this cast bullet. Thank you.

I just started casting my own bullits and this mold is very easy to use. A very popular design, clone of the keith bullet.

Easy to use. Takes awhile to break in. Has a few burrs in the mould that have to be removed.
