Good book, but some minor details missing
Good book in general with clear drawings. However there are some small nits.In the cutter example, it appears the topmast shrouds and spreader might interfere with the topsail if the yards were braced, for a beam reach, for example. It's not clear if these are "running" shrouds; see p. 19 for details of the topmast shrouds and see the full rigging on p.10.There appears to be unused blocks in the lower yardarm (one on each side)- p. 29 shows one block being used for the topsail sheet. Although the blocks might not be used in the model, it would be nice to know what they were used for- they may simply have been used as a whip to load stuff on the cutter for all I know.Did the lugger use dipping lug sails when tacking? I suspect not, but it would be nice to have that confirmed as the sails would be more efficient on one tack than the other.Other than those, it is a good book and I would recommend it.

every ship modeler could benefit from this book
As his earlier book did for square-rigged vessels, this book covers the rigging of predominantly fore-and-aft rigged ships - the rigging of three different examples are illustrated in great detail. While it will not help with the construction of the hull and much of the sparrage, it should answer just about any question one has about the final portion of the model-build: the rigging.I highly recommend both volumes for all shipmodelers.

Rigging
The major portion of the book is drawings with minimal text. Each section does provide a general written summary of the type of rigging and sail plan under discussion. The drawings are well rendered and easy to follow. This book is probably for about the intermediate-knowledgeable readers.

Nice to have...
I know most of this stuff and have similar information in other books but this is a nice to have. And if you did not know the ropes, as it were, it could be an essential guide for that model you are building or want to build. You could not find stuff like this whenI was a kid. Of course, they did not have the internet then.

Rigging fore-and-aft
What a fantastic book! Petersson's approach is to describe the rigging of a sailing ship represented by models from the period. His selected models have obviously been made by individuals familiar with the type, possibly even having sailed on them. His detail exceeds that required for a large-scale attempt, say 1/4 or 3/8" to the foot. An alternative approach would be to spend considerable time in a maritime museum, photographing and sketching models or possibly the real thing, all at considerable expense and time. Other authors, C.G. Davis is one, describe variants to the themes chosen by Petersson. These would include such matters as the transition from hemp to wire cable and chain, and ultimately, the transition from wood to steel. This book is an aid to the kinds of scholarship that make for success. It's well done.

For model shipbuilders
Presented as illustrations detailing rigging for typical cutter, lugger and schooner. Details of knots and equipment. As I build mostly period cutters this is excellent and highly recommended.
