Good hiking boot for a beginner hiker.
I bought these hiking boots for my 10-year son as he is now in Boy Scouts and it is required that he have a good/waterproof hiking boot. I wanted him to break them in before his big camping trip and he hiked with them and after the 3 mile hike, he said feet were dry, they did not hurt, and he did not have any blisters. The only con with the shoes was that the first time my son laced up the boot, the first eyelets on the right-hand side of the shoe snapped and was unable to hold up under the strain of tying the boot. My son is a typical 10-year old and does not super-human strength so that is the one weak spot in the overall manufacture of this boot.

Solid Boots
So I was hesitant in buying these because I am not familiar with the brand and they were inexpensive compared to the Keen and Merrell hiking boots we have bought in the past. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. These boots are American made and very sturdy. I also really like that they have a removable insert to increase the size so that your child can wear them longer, simply genius in my opinion. When we got them my son really liked them (he tends to be pretty picky) and after a 5 mile hike through some muddy and pretty steep terrain he said they were really comfortable and supported his ankles well and his feet stayed dry and warm. I would definitely recommend this brand and I'm glad I took a chance on these!

Missing the insoles!
I just received these boots for my son and I was a big puzzled by the lack of an insole as one of the major selling points of Hi-Tec kids' boots is the "Big Fit" 2 part liner system. I thought I was totally missing the boat, but eventually realized after some internet research that the pair I received had no insoles at all. Either a previous purchaser lifted them and returned them or just a packaging error. Either way, I sent them back for another pair. They do seem a bit big. I ordered 1.5M and they are bigger than my son's size 2 Keen hiking boots. Which will work out fine for me, as I will just keep them until they fit him, as they are great value for the money. I am only giving 3 stars because of the insole issue, but once I receive the next pair, I hope they will work out well for us.

Great Shoes!
My son is in love with his new hiking boots. He is an active 3 year old! I got them a size bigger which I am happy I did and wish I didn't all at the same time. They have this really cool insert that can be removed to make the shoes fit longer. I wish I saw that because I would have gotten his current size. He kind of stumbles on them when running but I think that is my fault.VERY WATERPROOF! He loves puddles! They have been put through the test and they are coming out strong. SO happy I chose this brand! I know it's not super name brandish but the quality surpasses the competition!

Good boots for camping and scouting.
My older son wore these shoes for the first time during a very muddy, soggy camping weekend. They did not get water inside them. He also didn't complain about any sore spots even though he wore them 3 days in a row without breaking them in first. He did a few small hikes, played soccer and ultimate Frisbee in them just fine. There is an insert than can be removed to make them a little bigger when his foot grows, so hopefully he can wear them longer. Also they are relatively easy to get off and on.

I got these for my 8 year old son and ...
I got these for my 8 year old son and he really likes them. He's hiked about a dozen or so miles in them and hasn't complained once about them bothering his feet at all. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because the tongue of the shoe doesn't come up very high and is a little weird but other than that I'm very please with these boots.

I would recommend purchasing these boots/shoes
Have only wore them a couple times. I actually bought them for my son, but they were large (maybe a half size). And because of the insert, there is even more room to grow. They do appear to keep out the water (I have wore them walking in light rain). They appear to be made of quality material and should hold up to both my use and my son's (when he grows into them). I would recommend purchasing these boots/shoes.

Both boys liked these boots and wear them more than tennis shoes
I bought 2 pairs of these. One for 2.5 yr old and the other for my 5 yr old. Both boys liked these boots and wear them more than tennis shoes. Their feet stay dry.I bought them 1/2 a size bigger than their current shoe size, however these run about 1 size big as it is. A year later, my now 6 yr old has a hold in the toe area (from dragging his feet to stop his bike :/ ). My now 3.5yr olds boops are in ok condition.
