The Lamy 2000 (EF) is everything I was ever looking for in a fountain pen. For starters, the most important element is how it writes. The 2000 is so smooth! An absolute joy to write with. The weight was well balanced and just right. Not too heavy, not too light. It feels durable. When you’re spending this kind of money on a pen, you want to make sure you’re not wasting it. The 2000 was worth every cent. My kiddo unfortunately dropped the pen and bent the nib so definitely keep this away from them. I loved this pen so much I ended up buying a new one to replace the old one (which can still be fixed). I use it for writing a lot so you could consider this a workhorse. The ink reservoir is big enough to keep you writing without interruption. My hand never got tired using it nor did it slip on the grip. Even though I have a lot of fountain pens, once I got the 2000, I knew if I ever had a choice to pick just one, it would be this. So happy with it and look forward to many more years of using it.

This Lamy 2000 is my first fountain pen. Coming from the gel pen world, I've never spent more than a couple bucks on a pen before. Yeah, I guess I could have gone with a cheaper 'starter' fountain pen, but I figured I may as well start out with something nice to make sure my first experience was a good one. Something about the Lamy 2000 kept catching my eye. It has a clean, modern looking design and apparently it's been around forever. I decided purchasing this through Amazon was a safe bet because 1. it was quite a bit cheaper here than other places selling it online, and 2. I could return the pen with no problem if I hated it. Well, you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers. I LOVE this pen. It is perfectly balanced, lightweight, and feels warm in my hand. I love that the brushed finish follows from the metal section to the black body of the pen seamlessly. You can barely see where these twist apart because they are made so well. I've read all about how this pen is difficult to write with, but even as a fountain pen newbie, I have no problems whatsoever. It writes very smoothly and I don't really notice much of a sweet spot. My go-to pens prior to this were Japanese gel pens like the Sarasa Clip and Signo DX in very fine tip sizes. I would say this Lamy 2000 in extra fine is similar to a Pilot G2 in .7mm. I purchased Lamy Turquoise ink to go with this pen and the combination is great. I love that I don't have to fiddle with separate converters or ink cartridges. The ink filling process is so easy and way less messy than I thought it would be. Even though the piston twisted smoothly while drawing up ink, I did purchase some silicone grease for future use to make sure the piston stays in good working order. The spring clip has very minimal branding- just 'LAMY' on the side- which I prefer to the huge LAMY plastered on the sides on the Safari and AlStar. The spring clip on my pen feels slightly wobbly, but since I don't really use the clip, it's not a huge deal for me. The only thing that didn't leave me super impressed was the ink window. The ink viewing windows are pretty small and are brushed over like the rest of the pen which makes them appear frosted. I don't see them being super useful in gauging ink level. All said and done, I think I made a great choice and don't regret the purchase at all.

The pen has a nice heft and solid feel in the hand. It is significantly heavier than resin body pens. There is a small clear section in the body that allows you to visually see when your ink level is low. The ink reservoir is large and lets me write for a week between refills even after writing a half dozen pages in my journal each day. Of course YMMV. The nib is non flexible and suited more to writing or cross hatching rather than variable weight lines for calligraphy. The nib also glides easily page. Only 2 characteristics prevent a 5 star rating: 1) the design is rather utilitarian I like a little more flair, but if you like clean lines and functionality you will be pleased, 2) the cap is friction fit and snaps in place rather than being threaded. I find when carrying in a "pen" loop in my messenger bag the heavy weight of the pen's body can cause it to slip free of its cap. Potentially this could create a mess, although to date I've recapped relatively quickly. All in all very nice product in the mid price range of fountain pens.
