The author Tony Allen has undertaken the monumental task of categorizing and documenting the jazz rock genre inEurope from 1968-1980.The groups and individual musicians are listed alphabetically with short summaries of therecareers and then reviews there essential albums with ratings from 3-5 stars within the time frame.He also includes thesideman and what instruments they play on the recordings.He claims not to be a musician but he has a keen ear for what is good and explains his arguments in his reviews in easy to understand language.If anything there may be tomuch information.I bought a lot of vinyl on imports from England and can vouch for the accuracy of his reviews.At over 700 pages I can honestly say that I skipped over many entries which I was not familiar with but I believe hisintent was to be as complete as possible for European readers.He also documents reasons he believes the genre has fallen out of favor and collects all the 5 star reviews togetherat the end of the book.This is the first book to my knowledge that collects the European scene so comprehensively.Since this is an Amazon Kindle Unlimited book (free) there is no reason not to read this if you are a fan of this music.So if you are a fan of Jack Bruce,Colosseum,If,Blodwyn Pig,Nucleus,Soft Machine,Isotope,etc. like me you won't bedisappointed.So fire up your Kindle and explore this music.PS-Tony also has a companion Survey for America/Asia also recommended

An amazingly detailed survey of jazz rock albums produced in Great Britain and Europe between 1968-1980. I cannot imagine how long it took Tony Adams to compile this, as even a single listening of the records discussed must have taken month. I now have to take a break before tacking his companion volume on jazz rock in America and the world.

It's fantastic that the author has made such an effort to write a book about the music of some of the most talented (and underrated) musicians of all time.
