Good, fast reading....
I am a fan of Mob Wives and like many, I have always been intrigued with John Gotti and Sammy the Bull (and all things Mob related for that matter). I was in my late teens/early 20's when these two guys were in the spotlight and through the years, I've read books about the rise and fall, also watched movies about Gotti and Sammy the Bull. There were parts of the book that were shown on TV or spoken about before, it is public knowledge but if you didn't follow you wouldn't know so these things needed to be explained. What none of the above books/movies ever talk about is exactly what Karen writes about in the book. Being so close to Karen in age, I've often wondered about how she, her brother and mom were doing through all this and how/why did Sammy end up doing 20 years for drug dealing when he was free from crime and the mob life. I found her life to be very interesting yet extremely stressful. She didn't choose to be part of this lifestyle, she was simply born and raised into it and it is all she ever knew. The book shows Sammy as the father and husband figure we never heard about. How she saw her dad, the relationship she had with him and what she thought about it all. None of this stuff has been spoken about on the TV show and I've never missed an episode, there are lots of brand new things to read about.Yeah the book may have not been written to the expectations of some, but I found it to be real and something I could relate to - the simplicity of telling the story the way Karen did got her point and feelings across and now I understand her family dynamic. Several times throughout the book I felt as if I were able to imagine all she went through and being from the "boroughs" myself, I could easily visualize a lot of streets and places she spoke about. Even when she was discussing Arizona, I could picture it all even though I've never been there. All of this equals a very good book for me. I enjoyed reading and got through it in a day, I just wish it was a little longer so I could look forward to reading some more.

GOOD QUICK READ
I really enjoyed this book. I am shocked by the amount of negative reviews this book has. I felt this book grabbed you in the beginning and kept you till the end. It was an open, and brutally honest depiction of what she truly felt and thought every step of her childhood. This book is very relatable for anyone who has ever lived in an unhealthy family atmosphere, or lived on the dangerous side. I have gone through some relatable experiences regarding the illegal activities she partook in, and her point of view on everything was exactly the way mine was at the same age. It was great to see how she overcame and grew from all the lows & bottoms she hit. The lack of "great" writing is easily overlooked by the story and the points she gets across. I was actually surprised at how well it was written from the character she portrays on Mob Wives. This must have been the most therapeutic experience to get all of her feeling down for the world to see. Opening yourself up to be this vulnerable is a HUGE milestone, especially after all the deceit and backstabbing she grew up accustomed to. I still miss Mob Wives...wish it would come back to TV! However, in the meantime, I love that she was able to drop her baggage in this book and hopefully move forward to start a new chapter in her life. <3

Good read, but....
I think this book is really good, but the first few chapters I really didn't care for. First of all, it's written like a little kid wrote it. She mentions things like naming her horse Snowflake and stuff. Who gives a ****? I want to hear about mob stuff. That's why I got the book! Also, things aren't really in chronological order at first. It goes from past to somewhat future to the past again so it's kind of confusing. If I hadn't read "UnderBoss" by Peter Maas, I think I would have been a little lost. Which, I think is also a good read. Other than that, I think Karen is a great writer. She did a good job telling her side of things and it was probably really hard for her to go through what she did growing up hearing all these terrible things about her father. I mean, who wants to find out your father has murdered people? To her, he was just a great guy. Not really sure why she was so mad at him cooperating. I felt that in his case he wasn't a rat because Gotti was going to let him take the fall for everybody when it was Gotti himself who orchestrated so many of the murders her father carried out. A few of them her father actually fought to save some of those men, but the boss is the boss. Even if it means killing family and friends. I guess I would've had to be in her shoes at that time. I think Karen is a cool chick and I watch her on the show Mob Wives. Although I don't always agree with how she acts in certain situations, she is a strong, beautiful woman and she stands up for her family. She should definitely be proud of her book. You go girl!

I lost interest very early in the book
After watching Mob Wives religiously I decided to buy Karen's book. I was disappointed. It's difficult to get into and the mentioning of all different names and characters in the book made it confusing.
