One of the thermostats we received worked fine. The other didn't work at all and the seller never responded to our inquiry. Amazon Customer Support was also no help at all. I'd suggest if you want to buy a Nest thermostat that you purchase it from a more reputable source that will help you out if they sell you a defective unit.

I have 2 units and they are simple to install on wall but absolutely a bear to setup first time. No manual or guide to explain the settings. It has instruction on unit but it's hit and miss. The first unit was a a real bear to install. Could not set it due to battery low indication. You are left to search nest home website and try to find what each settings do. When installing you are better off searching youtube videos. Fortunately there are a few Videos on Youtube which give you excellent setup info. I found it very annoying going to nest homepage constantly searching for answers. The second unit was easier. I charged the unit the night before with a USB cable as noted in Youtube video. After installing and going through setup it still gave me a battery low indication and could not connect to WIFI and update the software. It's a good thermostat with lot's of great features but annoying to setup and lacks information and instructions as to what each settings actually do. It has a boatload of features but lacks afew simple settings such as temperature HOLD feature. There are ways to set temperature to manual such as ECO feature or manual schedule setting but a simple hold temp while on Vacation would be so much simpler.Google should at the very least provide an electronic settings menu online. I think they prefer you get a PRO to set it up. I recommend the product but do you homework online before purchasing and installing.

Bought the 2pack. Did not install the second unit until several months later (we are renovating room by room). Since we first installed the second unit, there have been issues with it charging when plugged into the base. I have tried troubleshooting and had our boiler serviced, but continues to have issues. It is the dead of winter in the northeast and not having the heat in your bedroom work is pretty terrible. I was away for a weekend and came home to the thermostat compley dead and no longer accepting a charge, even from an external usb port. I have since contacted customer service twice about the warranty and no one has responded. I have nest devices in the rest of my house with no issues. Because I didn't purchase directly from Google I have to go through this reseller in order for the warranty to be valid. Would not recommend, purchase from someone else.

The display is not as crisp and clear as the 3rd Gen. Nest thermostat. Can improve the UI. Not as intuitive as 3rd Gen. Nest device. Installation was straightforward and not at all cumbersome. Clear why this is a cheaper model.

These work just as well as the more expensive units, I have owned both. I find these more attractive too. Using on a 4 zone radiant floor home, so the extra savings was a big deal. (Had to purchase 4 of these).They don't work with millivolt systems.

I have these things installed everywhere in my own home as well as in my rental units. I can program them to turn on and off or I can control them from the app on my phone. They are super easy to install and adjusting them by hand is also a breeze.

Basically wanted a thermostat which could be controlled remotely, due to our heating system only a few manufacturers do not require t. he C wire to provide 24v charging to power the thermostat. This limited our choices but feel this is a quality item
