Q: Does the rope easily rust or darken in any way that might ruin clothing?

It's not metal, so it won't rust, but it stretches horribly. And I couldn't find any way to keep it tight other than propping it up midway with a pole or something. I'm very disappointed in it and would never buy it again, and wish I'd never bought it to begin with. As far as I'm concerned it's a complete dud.

Probably China like everything else. It fails at 40 feet. It sags and slips. I do not recommend.

You can have it at 20' of you have something to hook it to that is 20'. It will lock to at any length yo want to lock it at.
