Excellent phone for a fraction of the price of the big names
I've owned just about every phone in the business - I'm one of those people that just gets bored if I'm honest, I like to chop and change things around on a whim. I have no real reservations around using a chinese phone as have owned several Huaweis in the past. This is the first experience of a Xiaomi after using an iPhone for a while. The first thing to warn about this is when it says EU in the name, it means it's an EU market model. It works perfectly fine in the UK on Vodafone but the plug supplied is an EU one. You will need an adaptor unless you have appropriate plugs already. Looking at the supplied charger I do not believe it's one of the fastest fast chargers the phone supports so you'd probably be better of investing in a better charger should you want to capitalise on QC4+.Otherwise the retail package is good. Comes with the usuals though no headphones supplied, however a useful and surprisingly pleasant matte plastic case is given to you in the box. Huaweis I've had in the past come with clear PVC cases which do the job but aren't the most attractive - lets forget Samsung and Apple that come with nothing! It would be nice to have got a screen protector pre-applied.The phone immediately creates a great impression. It's weighty but not unduly so and feels like a quality item, there is absolutely nothing that gives the impression it's not made to the same standard as iPhone or Samsung. Powering up the screen really shows off what a jaw droppingly good screen it is. It's a SuperAMOLED at 6.4" which is probably the goldilocks spot for me between size and ease of use. The resolution may not be up there with the posh samsungs but from the naked eye you wouldn't be able to tell. Colour saturation and eye searing brightness, it's a real feast. The pop up selfie camera works and works well though, since face unlock is purely image based rather than truly biometric, it would be best to use it for selfies only. The mechanism is rated for 300,000 movements and there is no impression it won't last that long. The software is perhaps the only area that some might not like. Chinese phones take a more "iPhone" like view of Android generally and get rid of the separate App menu, everything is on the homescreens alongside the widgets. I don't personally find this an issue but some will - if it is, you can always use a custom launcher. Xiaomi have reskinned Android in their own way. Most of it is simply aesthetic and personally I quite like it. It's relatively elegant and makes use of the screen very well, especially the dark mode which is completely black (and therefore saves battery life!). There are lots of options for customising things, like Always on Display notifications and the pop up camera animations. Xiaomi by default limits a lot of the notifications that come through to the lock screen but you can change this at your leisure. The finger print scanner works well enough with a tempered glass protector on.The cameras are really very good as well, provided you're willing to use the functions within. Nightmode makes a marked improvement in the dark and the beautification functions aren't too over the top. It won't quite challenge the top of the line Cameras on £1000+ phones but its certainly far superior to the current level iPhone 11/XR and matches the S10.I have come from a £700 iPhone XS and feel this is a significant upgrade. It's faster, just as easy to use, offers all the same applications and features plus has real wow factor.

Plenty of phone for your money.
This is an excellent phone, really good value, with the same or better performance of handsets twice the price. The screen is crisp and has no notch!! The front camera is hidden in a neat little motorised popup. The main camera produces fantastic pictures in all light conditions, with the 48 megapixel lense taking excellent and detailed pictures. The Xiaomi software is good for a skinned version of Android. There are Xiaomi versions of popular apps, which you can use or just download the apps you prefer.Totally recommend this handset if you are looking for an alternative to the expensive big name brands but with the same performance.

Great phone. Why pay more?
Bought tihs for my wife to replace an aging iphone 6+. She transitioned painlessly and she is no techie. The phone is top notch. Dual active sims. Selfie popup camera is cool. It is the same speed as my daughters samsung s10 plus. I bought my phone from just phones, a uk company and they supplied a uk charger as well though i bought a 36w fast charger. Battery life is amazing. My partner had new battery in her apple phone but was still not getting through the day as she is a heavy user. This phone easily lasts 2 days

Fantastic Phone
Bought this for my daughter as a present - she says it is Poggers which I believe means amazing. In all seriousness this is a fantastic phone. In fact I am waiting for the Mi 10 to come out so that I can get that one for myself. These phones are fully packed flagship contenders at mid to low range prices.I highly recommend that you think about Xiaomi rather than the usual so called class leading suppliers - in my mind they are over priced and do not offer anything that the Xiaomi cant give you.

Best budget / sub £400 phone right now
This phone is really impressive. I have not dipped below 15% battery and usually only charge every other day. This is great for gaming too - it handles Gamecube emulation well and the amoled screen makes for vivid colours. My only gripe is not having a proper notification light (there is one on the camera but it is so small!).Still, this thing can easily beat most of samsungs 'budget' or last-gen phones on performance:battery alone.

Low Cost Flagship Phone from Xiaomi
Absolutely the best phone I've ever owned. It's a powerhouse of a phone, the battery lasts a day an a half. The fingerprint scanner works really well, it has Android 10 out of the box and is the lastest version only the Google Pixel or the high-end Samsung phones are released with Android 10.I've had owned various Xiaomi phones and I wasn't disappointed. This device is classed as a flagship handset.
