this is a beautiful pen, the ink was very hard to open but other than that it writes beautifully. the box is gorgeous and the ink is clean and smooth and doesn’t spill or pool or even bleed much! i would recommend this it’s wonderful!

First I have to say the packaging was wonderful. The box even puts you in the mood to write. It comes with everything that one might need to begin writing cursive or calligraphy with several different nib sizes, plus ink and a small wood tray to hold the ink bottle (round or square) and a slot to lay the pen. The pen itself is wood with a décor pewter looking nib holder and the pen is nice and heavy-well balanced. With all this, it's only moments before we begin to write...well...err-no. What I found to be wrong with this is, although something looks wonderful-does it work? The pen is mass produced- it has to be, because the nib holder on the pen I received barely accommodates the nibs. They all need to be forced into the pen, almost to the point of bending and wrecking the nibs. A close look at the pen finds that the holder is slightly smaller than the standard and the tabs get bent trying to get the nib in properly. I personally know where to seat the nib properly before pushing the nib in, however, if someone is learning this and forces the nib... The nibs themselves are very standard, possibly too chromed out because with the ink that was provided, the nibs do not hold the ink, so the first touch to the paper and all the ink blots off. So some light sanding may be required on the nibs to make the ink run better. The ink itself I suspect may be better for fountain pens because I tried this ink with some of my other dip pens with the same result, lots of blotting. I did match some other nibs to this pen for fit and set them aside especially for this pen. I do like the feel of this pen, so I'm not exactly disappointed, I just think there is room for improvement. If they widened the barrel on the pen some, and changed the ink type for starters, this kit would improve. Anyway, if you do purchase this, you'll get a nice pen, just be prepared to do some work adjusting things for fit and function.
