Excellent reference tool! Recommended.
I bought this book for my 7-year old son and it became a wonderful tool to teach him not only about the flag themselves, but also geography, history AND philately, thanks to the inclusion of one stamp from every country. The "World Flags Styles" section at the beginning is a fantastic mnemonic device for anyone trying to remember all the flags. We use the book also to play the "capitals game" and the "official language/s game", there is a plethora of information about the countries of the world. This second edition is completely updated (up to 2012, South Sudan is in there), and much better edited than the first. The "Subnational Flags" section at the end is a useful addition and the flags depicted there are appropriately smaller than the national flags. The book is compact, well made (good quality paper), and you can tell the editors put all of attention to detail, so far I haven't found any mistakes relating to the flags. Congrats to the stamp collector who wrote the captions under the stamps.I bought this book togheter with the very compact "Atlas A-Z: 5th Edition (DK Atlas A-Z)" and they compliment each other.

Elementary
If you are looking for a book that provides insight regarding the flags, this is not the book for you. This book is elementary. It is 5"x 8". One country per page with a third of the page showing the flag, a paragraph about the colors and symbols, another two paragraphs about the history of the country. These pages represent the 196 United Nations members and observer countries with a few missing. The back of the book shows the flags of the individual US states, Canadian provinces, UK member countries and the Australian provinces without any details. You will not see the 75 territories of the US, UK, France, Australia, Netherlands, New Zealand and China. I hoped for more.

My 7 year old loves this book
Full of easy to read information and the flag photos are great. He borrowed this from the school library and didn’t want to give it back, so I bought him his own copy.
