Mine worked on US equipment
Had no problem watching on US equipment. The acting and production are excellent but I watched it on Amazon. Sadly the dvds leave out big chunks of the program then try to fill it in with the last dvd review. The transcription to dvd is disappointing.

Great drama, lousy history
This succeeds as soap opera, but is in no way a historical drama. I have studied Roman Britain by the period scholars and the portrayal of the tribes, and more importantly, the Druids, are not accurate. This production is colorful, well acted and has beautiful production values. The characters are involving and the story sweeps you along. But do not mistake the mumbo jumbo and politics for historical reality. The use of Donovan's 1968 hit Hurdy Gurdy Man used for the theme music says it all. This is just entertaining camp, pure and simple.

Terrific Series
I absolutely love this series. Have watched and rewatched it many times on Amazon Prime. I'm highly disappointed I cannot purchase a DVD in the format used in the U.S.A. Britannia is "different"...and I enjoy the intrigue. The end of Season 1, a character says he "know what happens". Well, I want to know, too. So far, Amazon Prime has NOT committed to running the 2nd season (color me very unhappy). If you like "Outlander" and/or "Game of Thrones", I believe you'll also like this series. Season 1 is available on Amazon Prime Video.

Great Show!
If you enjoyed "The Vikings," you'll love this show. I'm impressed with how seriously it delves into the Druid culture and religion. The Romans are coming: Watch out!

Give it a chance or you may miss out.
I think everyone is entitled to their opinion but I think it easily deserves five stars. It had me gripped from the start.I was put off by the bad reviews as thought it was going to he too trippy/supernatural.I dont think its meant to be historically accurate it is just a story loosely based in that period.I wouldnt describe it as fantasy ...there are pagan rituals but any fantasy could be put down to the use of substances like peyote and illusion.Every single member of the cast is a brilliant actor.David Morrissey performs exceptionally as the Roman general and comes out with some classic lines. The young teenage girl stands out but there are so many good performances I dont want to spoil it.Whats wrong with using hurdy gurdy man as the theme I think it works. And I missed the bad writing.Expect gore though. It was compelling viewing and though different I would put it up there with game of thrones and definitely better than Vikings which I gave up on.Iswitch off very quickly but urge you to give it a chance and dont be put off by bad reviews.Oh and there is some humour too.

Psychedelic Man!
I was sold on this series from the first trailer last year and couldn't wait for the DVD release. There has been a lot of adverse comments elsewhere on using Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man" as the title tune. All I can say is what an apt song for this series - Psychedelic....... (man....!) and what a trip.A lot of criticism about lack of historical authenticity which I get ........and yet........ for me the makers have knowingly (unknowingly?) tapped into what for me is probably pretty near on the attitudes at the time - from both sides.A certain sense of humor required - the Carry On's on Acid?Oh and great actors who are all "in on it" Splendid stuff. Can't wait for series two.

EXTREME REACTIONS PROVOKED!
AD43. This island up for grabs? Enter with big strides David Morrissey's Commander Aulus ("I am Rome") Plautius. The troops lack his confidence, mindful how Julius Caesar decades earlier came, saw and fled - here much too weird for comfort. How will Plautius cope with warring oddly clad Celts; superstitious rituals: scary Druids, living amid little pyramids of skulls...?This series makes no claims to be historically accurate, its creator freely admitting liberties have been taken (facts about Druids being in very short supply). Instead of carping about how this is not how things were, it helps simply to sit back and accept what is here.More worthy of criticism is a certain lack of coherence, at times it hard to follow what is going on. A firmer hand is certainly needed.Strengths? There are many. Great scenery. Some powerful performances (Zoe Wanamaker as Queen ("kiss my feet") Antedia; Mackenzie Crook (after hours of make-up) a positively chilling Head of Druids Veran. Then there is a very odd couple indeed: temperamental seer Divis and shrill young Cait (for whom the Gods have plans). Forever at odds, they prove a fine double act - exchanges enhanced by dialogue very much of our times.Much is going on, everything clearly heading for a dramatic climax ( especially with Plautius so odd since his visit to the underworld). The violent finale may not disappoint.Nine episodes, two interesting bonus features.Be advised opinions are sharply divided. Many viewers have been decidedly sniffy. In contrast, others have savoured this lively presentation of a long, long ago much of which never was.

DREADFUL
Take notice of the other reviewers everything they said about this dvd being drivel was exactly right. I am retired & can watch most things but this dvd take the biscuit. How such distinguished actors such as Zoe Wannamaker & David Morrisey can let themselves be used in this way astounds me. Puerile (silly & childish) rubbish stay away & don't waste your money. Good job there is no season 2!!

enjoyed season 1
enjoyed season 1, the only problem was the script using 21st century speech and phrases, looking forward to season 2 and hopefully a lot more action as the Romans didnt invade Britain with 4 Legions plus 20,000 Auxiliaries just to talk about the weather
