SwimWays 12285 Toypedo Revolution

I got this for my son's 5th birthday and he wanted to go try it out right away. It takes a little bit of practice to figure out how to throw it so that it really zooms, but not much. My son could actually catch it underwater most of the time. The slightly rubbery torpedo has a liquid inside and the fins are canted in such a way that it spins through the water, and the additional weight of the liquid gives it a little added oomph (that's the technical term, people). Because it's blue, I can see that if it made it to the bottom of the deep end, it'd probably be hard to find, but we were playing in 3-4 feet of water, so it wasn't difficult to locate. Everyone wanted to give it a try (even the dads!) so it was great for making friends and sharing. It's very sturdy-it's been hurled through our living room (grrrrr), left in the car during 101 degree heat, and played with many times in the water and it's still intact.

I was disappointed because I looking to replace the torpedo pool toys I had growing up (I'm 23 years old)-- they were the same size, but had a heavy, rubber body which gave them weight to glide fast/ far underwater. This one is built differently, and has a stamp on the side of saying 'to only throw it under water, to never throw it at another person, and to wear goggles when playing with it'.. I'm guessing this is the safer version of the toy I've been searching for and I'll have to keep looking.Pros: the fins are angled instead of straight (for spiraling)Cons: the body is hollow/ filled with glitter (makes it very slow underwater)

Torpedos are great pool fun. But, as the seller says, color may vary and unfortunately I got a blue one, which you are hard to see in the water. Sometimes you have to get out of the pool to find it. I ended throwing this one out and buying one from another company that did not have blue ones.

I bought this to replace our torpedo that was stolen last year, and it is nothing like our first one. It barely goes in the water and doesn't change directions or speed off anywhere. Our first one was really neat, but this one was just a disappointment.

I could not figure out what smelled so badly in our closet. I bought this for my son as a surprise and put it away. It is so smelly! Ugh! It works really well, just stinks a ton!

It's a lot of fun to pass this back and forth underwater. Most toys you need to throw above the water of course. So this is a unique toy to have in the arsenal. My four year old likes it just as much as me and can make it work no problem. We can't get it to go 40 feet though! Tops maybe 30. It's great for kids to learn how to dive as it will sink to the bottom. Only sparkles in the sun, otherwise it is a dark blob. But it is fun as a dark blob all the same. I would definitely recommend this toypedo.

Once you get over the fact that this thing looks like a sexy toy, it's actually pretty fun. It takes a few tries to figure out the best launching technique, it's pretty easy to get it fire 20 feet or so across the pool with good accuracy. If you can imagine playing underwater Frisbee in a pool, this guy is about as close as you'll get. Now I just have to figure out how to keep my girlfriend from calling it "her precious" and running off with it...

We saw a similar item that the kids' swim instructor had and knew we had to have one. We got this item and are really happy with it. It feels a bit sturdier and heavier than other models. It really can glide far under the water. Our kids love playing with this and helps them to dive under water. Really fun water toy!
