I'm surprised more drummers don't use oak
Not only more durable but much better feeling most importantly. The rebound you get from oak is so much better than hickory. Its probably a faster rebound but mostly its just a much stronger rebound.I would be willing to be if you tested it, more of the energy you put into the stick is retained than with hickory sticks let alone maple. That means oak is more efficient. Plus its harder and definitely more durableMore expensive but luckily I play on an electric kit so I dont break sticks. Its been years and I still haven't broken a stick on my e kit (I have switched sticks a few times though)

Pro-Mark 7A Oak Drum Sticks offers Perfect Weight, balance, durability and good reach.
For this being an oak wood stick, this Pro-Mark 7A offers a perfect weight, balance and reach without causing fatigue, and, while slightly heavier than standard Hickory 7A drumsticks, it can even be we’ll suited for Jazz. Great for developing finger conditioning, control and speed on Drum Practice Pads. Haven’t worn it yet but expect it to provide the durability associated with Oak but wonder if it is prone to splintering as some woods do.

Just great sticks.
There's nothing like a Pro-Mark Shira Kashi Oak drumstick. If these 727s feel good to you, you won't be unhappy with how well it can help your playing.

Much flex, Very style adjustments
Shira Kashi oak is a little too flexible of a wood for me… feels more like a marimba mallet’s flex, when playing clean double strokes… good buy, but I think I prefer hickory after the experience.

Durable & Dependable
Searched for an equavalent replacement for the Regal Quantum 1000 and happened upon these, and boy am I now hooked. I've been thrashing on the same sticks for awhile now and here to say they're not only durable but comfortable in the hand. Highly Recomended.
