great for Fluval Edge
I use this small magnet to clean the top & sides of my 6g Fluval Edge aquarium.CONSTRUCTION: this set consists of two magnets encased in plastic. The "outside" magnet has a felt surface to avoid scratching your aquarium. The "inside" magnet cleaning material is the "hook" half of a hook+loop (aka velcro) fastener.USE: the Fluval Edge aquarium has a built-on glass roof, and access is through a 5x7" porthole on the top. The inside magnet skips a little on my aquarium glass but cleans green filament algae off my glass easily.PROS: the FLOATING feature is awesome, makes it easy to retrieve the magnet without reaching into the water.CLEANS AROUND CORNERS - The magnet is strong enough that the "inside" magnet just jumps from one wall to the other when you go around corners. very cool and functional.CONS: as with all magnets I've used, the scraped off algae ends up floating away into the tank and getting hung up on my plants. par for the course...BULKY inside magnet housing. A lower-profile magnet would be better for me. The Mag Float is hard to maneuver around my driftwood and plants because it sticks out into the aquarium.OVERALL: cleans well, easy to use on my hard-to-clean and cramped 6gal aquarium.

Mag-Float For the WIN!
I purchased this product for my 14gal saltwater nano tank. As a beginner to the world of fish-parenting, I was looking for a relatively cheap product that was reliable, and a great value for the quality. Thankfully, that is exactly what I got with the Mag-Float Glass Aquarium Cleaner in Grey. Not only is it the perfect size for my small tank, it FLOATS! While this may seem obvious, this quality is really what sets it apart. Forget digging around and getting your arm wet when you (inevitably) pull the pieces apart while trying to clean the corners of your tank. With Mag-Float, you'll only ever have to get the tips of your fingers wet, if that! The magnets are strong, so I rarely even have to dip my hands in the tank. Plus, as an added bonus, I never have to worry about Mag-Float falling down the side of the tank.Overall, I couldn't be happier with my Mag-Float Glass Aquarium Cleaner in Grey.

A Bit Small
The two magnets became separated too often. I should have ordered a larger size. (I have had the larger size, but one magnet has gone missing so I ordered another pair. I didn't realize this pair was smaller than my original one.)

Best Tool For The Job Given Its Limitations
This Mag-Float accomplishes the job, but not efficiently. However, one cannot fault the product too much as it is simply the nature of the design. It's just too small of a magnet to create enough pressure on the glass. You'll get the algae off the glass, but you'll have to make 10-20 passes (unless you scrape everyday) over the same spot depending on how stubborn it is. Again, this is because the abrasive side, inside the tank, just doesn't have enough pressure behind it.I also own the "Large" model, which works PERFECTLY. Same exact design, only it's size allows it to apply much more pressure to the glass, hence, allowing you to remove algae in 1-2 passes. The reason I did not give this product a low rating is because if you have a small tank (such as my 4 gallon nano), you have no choice but to use the "Small" model. And even though it does not work as well as the larger models, it is still a MUCH, MUCH better alternative to using a sponge or paper-towel, which don't work well to begin with and also require you to submerge your hand in the tank. This can get very messy and time consuming with nano tanks because you would then have to drain some water lest having it overflow when you submerge your hand.Mag-Float put out the best product they could given the limitations a small tank provides. My recommendation is to buy the biggest scraper your tank can fit. If you have anything over 15-20 gallons, spend the extra money and get the "Large" model. The money you will save by buying this one most definitely is not worth the amount of time and effort you will put in getting your glass clean. On the other hand, if you have a very small tank and have no choice but to purchase the "Small," do it, because it's still the very best tool for the job, regardless of it's shortcomings.

Why did I put off buying this for so long?
If you are looking for an easier way to keep algae off the glass of your fish tank, then the mag-float is the only way to go. I have used razor blades (which work the best, but only at the correct angle), the Top Fin magnetic glass scrubber, and the Aqueon magnetic glass scrubber. Mag Float is the best for daily use and keeps the algae from building up so repeated scrubbing or using a razor blade isn't necessary. If the magnet becomes separated from the scrubber, the scrubber floats rather than sinks into the sand where it could collect particles that would scratch the glass. Please note, that it doesn't get every part of the glass; corners will still need a razor blade. But it quickly removes algae from the large viewing surface of the fish tank so you can see into the tank and enjoy your fish more often.

I totally love this! Perfect for my 10 gal tank but ...
I totally love this! Perfect for my 10 gal tank but could be used in a bigger one too. My tank is new so I didn't have any hard stuck on alge to test it on but it's doing a great job of keeping the glass clean. The best part? The strong magnets allow you to move from the side to the front of the tank without having to reach in and grab it. I just jet close to the edge, pull the outside piece off, and move to the next side and the floating piece comes right to it! And I between cleanings i leave it attached in a back corner out of the way but easily accessed. My only problem is where some of my plants are close to the sides and their isn't enough room for it. I may rearrange my tank a bit to fix this.
