Greek Giant Beans, Gigantes (3alpha) 500g

No American bean can replace them, in my opinion.
First I have to admit, we love trying foods from different cultures. A couple of years ago I ran into a tasty looking recipe calling for Gigantes Greek beans. Used a substitute, wasn't too impressed with the results. Discovered the real thing on Amazon. True, the price is outrageous- but after looking around realized that is the norm or this product. After all, they are only grown in Greece and Spain.So. I buy several pounds at once to save some on shipping, and here's why: These beans when baked the Greek way are like comfort food. Creamy texture and delicious flavor. My kids love them, and they are not partial to beans. Sure, they are as costly as steak, but a lot healthier!

Delicious, delicous beans
A meal within themselves, these beans are best just cooked with onion and some herbs. Make sure they're well-cooked. These beans are amazing if prepared correctly. Don't use them as a filler, just eat them on their own.

Best Big Beans!!
My family is vegan and we consume a lot of beans/legumes. These giant white beans are a fun favorite. You do have to soak them for a day or so, so plan ahead. Not for all you instant pot dry bean folks (I did try.) If your curious about them, TRY THEM :) I’ve never tried any other brand. These are always fresh and delicious.

Failed to get tender!
I've attempted cooking these twice (half the bag twice) both times the beans would not soften, remained tough and dry. Yes, they were soaked,, yes i cooked them long and low in plenty of liquid. I cook other dried beans succesfully. Disappointing! I love them from the Mediterranean bar at my grocery! Followed a Bobby Flay Greek recipe that included tomatos, then read online that acid toughen the beans. So why does it work for Bobby Flay?! Expensive & time consuming!

my husband and I fell in love with gigantic beans in Europe and I've been looking ...
Well, first off let me confess I haven't tasted the beans yet. However, my husband and I fell in love with gigantic beans in Europe and I've been looking for a source since we got home. What I have done with these beans is pop them in the ground so I can grow my own supply for the future. I can attest to the fact that they are fresh and non sprayed with anything to keep them from sprouting because they all came up beautifully. I trust they will taste as good as they germinated.

Good quality but expensive
So I didn't read the reviews before I bought. Why would you, there beans. I did think I was getting 2 bags per the photo, I think this was deliberately misleading, they know that a US consumer won't realize 500g is only one bag. This makes these very expressive beans. With that said they cooked up beautifully. I soaked overnight, used a Greek instant pot recipe I found online. 15 min high pressure, then another 5 min high with the rest of the ingredients. They were delicious, creamy yet held together. Quality was good.

Tasty, versatile, and satisfying!
Gigandes are such tasty beans, so versatile, and I'm glad I could find some for sale on the Web, since I can't find them anywhere except already mixed with God knows what stuff in premade 'salads'. I used to like those salads, but then looked at the ingredients... Having the beans to make whatever I want is fabulously satisfying - anything I've tried them in has been a family rave. And these arrived in good condition, good quality, and just as creamy and tasty as I had hoped.

Misleading product value.
Gave impression that sale included 2 bags like I received on two previous order from different supplier but shipped only one. Making it a terrible value. Basically $18.00 for 1lbs. of beans.
