I've not had a lot of experience with this type of product, but it turns your breakfast eggs up a notch. Lovely, also with pasta. Could be an acquired taste, but then you only need to use a little to add a delicate umami flavour. It's a staple in the fridge now, and the last one I bought lasted at least 6 months no problem. Just keep it in a sealed pack so it doesn't dry out further. I think after about 6 months there was slight discoloration on the outside skin, but after taking this off the last bit of it, it was good for another couple of months.

A very good bottarga at a very reasonable price.

The first taste was rather bland, but as the slices warmed up in my mouth, my taste buds came alive with the Bottargas unique taste. I bought this as a treat for a dinner party, and had to have huge self control not to eat most of it by myself. The photo is showing a “rehearsal” plate of sepia pasta, prawns,garlic, parsley and bottarga slices. Very simple.
