what if I'm unable to upgrade to 10.13 because my ma is missing a "firmware partition? my ssd disappeared a few weeks bak while installing Catalina.

Try installing the factory os via internet recovery and start over. Then search for article HT208969 (was not allowed to post the link in this message) to download 10.13 and start the installation. There is a firmware upgrade that 10.13 installs prior to the os install. If the old SSD still works then i would recommend installing 10.13 on that drive before upgrading the SSD.

Doesn’t fit my early 2015 MacBook Air 13”. The original SSD is longer and has the slot in a different spot.
