A Christmas Carol (Dover Thrift Editions: Classic Novels) Review: Love the story and price - I read this with my 5th graders right before we go to break and it's a fabulous tale. This is a cheapie version but it well worth the cost. Review: A Christmas Carol is Dickens at His Best - I imagine that this will be the last book that I finish in 2025, and that is fine, since this is a great book. I have a love-hate relationship with Dickens. I generally like his work, but it has often felt that there are too many characters, and the structure of his novels reflects the material reality of the writing and publishing process, with a serial nature and payment by the word. To reiterate, too many characters and plots that hang way too much on coincidences. That said, once you don't try to project what a (post)modern novel looks like and its tropes and structures on Dickens, it holds up generally. Christmas Carol though, blows through those issues. It's tightly constructed. You get the introduction of Scrooge. Everyone hates him; you hear that they hate him, and Dickens shows why people would hate him. Then you go to Marley, and each short chapter is about one of the ghosts. The final chapter then showcases the character's growth. So five clear acts; a handful of characters; tight character arc. This is one of those stories that is so familiar and ingrained in the culture that it is almost as if no one wrote the original, yet it took real skill and effort. I'm really glad I read it when I did (bought the cheap Dover edition right after watching the Muppet version of the story before Christmas and read the book on Christmas Eve). It's an amazing text, and it should be read, and we should respect the skill Dickens had

Unabridged classic for a great price!
I purchased these for my Literature students before Christmas, and this edition is an unabridged text for a very good price. We had a joy-filled week reading the book together during the week before Christmas break. Highly recommend!

Classic Christmas Story
This book was part of a classic reading challenge I participated in last year. I used it again for an online college course which lead to a higher understanding of the author. I look forward to reading it again this coming winter. I recommend this copy to anyone.

Well you know the story and it’s good
I’ve seen ,I don’t know how many movie versions of this and have seen a theatrical version at least twice. I figured time to read the original. Well , despite some cornball sentimentality, it’s a good story with a real emotional kick.Give it a shot, it doesn’t take long.

A classic story!
I have to confess that I purchased this item as filler to get up to the $35 free shipping amount.... But, it arrived in early December, and being in the Christmas mood, I proceeded to read it front to back in one sitting. I had seen various television/movie versions of the story over the years, but I don't recall ever reading the book. As usual, the book was much better than any television/movie representation! It took me a while to get into the mindset of that time period in an English town, but once I adjusted, it was a terrific story. I understand why it is considered to be a classic, and the moral of the story still rings true today.

The cover is good and hard. The pages too are good. Guess I need not say anything about the story. Overall the book is worth buying.
