Great book that outperformed others
We used several restaurant suggestions from this book and were pleased with everyone. It was handy that they were organized by city area. We also followed one of the walking tours and enjoyed it.We had trouble finding out how to purchase tram cards without using a special European credit card, but, in fairness, this was hard to find even once we were there. You buy them at the currency exchange at the train station.

Good but needs an update
We are fans of Fodor's travel guides, which are organized by activity (what to see, where to stay, what to eat) as well as by neighborhood. The Amsterdam edition is good as expected, but it's the end of 2015 and this particular edition went to press in 2012, which means a bunch of the information is outdated. Multiple references to museum renovations that are delayed (my guess is that the projects are now complete?) and an ongoing projects to clean up the red light district (what's the status? I don't know). My advice is to buy another guide that is more recently updated, or wait until Fodor's updates this city guide.

This book is almost a must have before traveling to Amsterdam. I picked it up at the library first so I could do research on my upcoming trip. It is truly in depth and written in a way so you aren't overwhelmed with a whole lot.

Fodor's Amsterdam
This book is ideal for travellers who have never been to Amsterdam. It is very helpful in directing the reader to various points of interest. To the seasoned traveller to Amsterdam the book is a bit touristy and crams much information into a small space. A little moreinformation about historical sites and some of the museums' collections would be appreciated. All in a 4 star rating.

Excellent Guide
We recently enjoyed a wonderful trip to Amsterdam. Our stay was enhanced by information and recommendations included in this book. It was well organized and covered all areas of interest. I always read Fodor's guides before embarking on a trip to return home with maximum benefits.

The kindle version was, frankly, inadequate and useless. I got the Lonely Planet BOOK while I was there. VERY helpful

Great book
I used this one a lot, especially the restaurant reviews. Having the average prices in Euros, which I translated beforehand into dollars, was most helpful in selecting where to eat. The maps with favorite tourist sites marked was also essential.
