Great way to secure a pump action shotgun.
This product is great. I had no issues changing the combination and it works as intended. I was reading a lot about people trying to damage our remove the speaker. There are instructions that say to hold down the 1 button to turn off the beep and the 2 button to turn it back on. This did not work. There is a comment in the questions on Amazon that said theirs was reversed so I have that a shot and held down the 2 button and that worked! No more beeps

Dangerous
The keypad lock is garbage. Ours is stuck on the default combination which any burglar or my kids once they’re old enough will be able to easily guess. We’ve called Shotlock and all they suggest is changing the batteries, which we did but the combo will still not change. We follow the instructions and get the two beeps but then it’s always only the default code that works. On top of that sometimes entering the default code just doesn’t work and as other people have mentioned it will just start an incessant beeping until I take the batteries out. It’s significantly more dangerous than a key safe because at least a key safe i would know to go for the key first in the case of a break in. With this first you have the loud beeps with just punching numbers in the keypad and then potentially the loud incessant beeping of a broken device letting the burglar know exactly where I am, and then I still need to fetch my key to finally unlock the thing. Do not waste your money.

Pros:* Relatively easy installation* Mounts in either direction* Works with Mossberg 500 pump* Lots of code combinations* Leaves gun secure but easily accessible if needed* Comes with an external battery pack that can be used to unlock it if the internal batteries die. Smart!Cons:* Makes a loud beep when buttons are pressed. Think smoke alarm noise. If there is an intruder, they'll likely know exactly where you are before you can defend yourself. If the beep was whisper quiet (or disable-able) I'd give this 5 stars.* Pump action guns have to be secured with the action open (the mount fits through the ejection port). Makes it a little cumbersome to insert and remove a loaded gun. I have to leave the action open with a shell in the basket so when I close the action it chambers the round. Not a dealbreaker, I just wish there was a way to lock it up with the action closed.

Not much confidence in this product.
A few things to keep in mind is that this NOT going to offer much protection against theft. It's strong enough to keep a firearm out of small children's hands and casual tampering. I doubt it would stand up to any attack with simple hand tools. It's main strength is that it allows you to secure your firearm in a place that is concealable but easily accessed. I've had mine for a year and a half and recently had an issue with the locking mechanism not functioning, in my case the mechanism would not engage. To repair it, I had to disassemble the lock and reseat a part that was supposed to be held in place with a spring. For someone that was not mechanically inclined it very well would have gone to the trash as the warranty period is short. I am no longer confident that the device will give me access to my firearm when needed even if I were to use the physical key.

Decent, but with flaws
The shotlock electric shotgun safe works well to secure my Mossburg model 500. It has numerous mounting points to install it to the wall as needed and comes with all hardware required. It comes with a number of mounts that can be used to secure various other shotguns as well. The first one I received was defective, and would not allow me to change the combination. A replacement was sent out immediately, and worked fine. Besides the push button combination lock, it has a key override. Although it does work well, I gave it three stars for two reasons:1) If you are going to have an electronic lock, why not have the buttons lighted? You would have to turn on a light to see the buttons at night. In an emergency, where you would need to get to the gun quickly, having to turn on the lights would both destroy your night vision and give away your position, both of which place you in danger.2) The second reason is that the safe beeps loudly when the buttons are pressed, so even if you were able to open it without a light, you would still be giving away your position.I'm still fairly happy with the safe. It keeps my gun secure and away from those that shouldn't touch it, while allowing me quick access in an emergency.

Perfect
A new state law requires me to protect firearms from theft. This works very well. Installed behind a bedroom door out of sight. Very secure.

Shoddylock
Low quality and flimsy. The electronic lock is not reliable, it often will not open. Sometimes, when you type the code it, it will make a high-pitched, loud, continuous tone for about 5 minutes straight. It's done this a few times. The system is unresponsive and you cannot make it stop. By the time I found the keys, unlocked it, got an allen wrench to open the battery compartment... it stopped. Also, customer service phone number from their website goes to a personal voicemail--and you never get a return phone call after leaving a message.Borderline scam. Avoid.

Used for my Mossberg 500 20 gauge pump with pistol grip, adjustable stock. Had to remove some of the foam lining because with it in it was too tight and the lock stuck shut. Still had enough clearance from the wall for my sidesaddle that's on the side of the stock. Have only had it mounted for a day but it is solid.
