Resin handle material for knife making. Also called knife scales. This sale is for set shown in the photo. You will receive two pieces of resin that are cut near 1 ½ x 5 1/4 x 5/16 to 3/8+ inches. They come as a book matched set. These scales turn out AWESOME! Resin scales are not much harder to work with than wood and they turn out so much better! The basic principle of resin making is to take a filler such as pinecones, driftwood, block ends, or burl caps and place them into a mold. We use a two part polyurethane or acrylic, along with colored dyes. This is mixed and poured into the mold with the filler. This mold is then placed into a pressure pot for about three hours. When putting it into the pressure pot, the pressure displaces all the air and injects the filler with resin, creating a solid block. Once taken out of the pressure pot, it sits to cure for about 10 days. Once cured, it is then cut into scales for knife making. These scales are also often used for making 1911 gun grips.
