Fits comfortably, seems to be good quality, assembly is difficult and instructions are abysmal.
Upon opening the box there is a half-sheet of paper marked “Assembly Instructions” which are very poorly written, very poorly illustrated, very poorly copied, and appear to be a full page ripped in half with the lower half missing since the instructions trail off the bottom and the right side of the page. The back side of this page has some information about the sound attenuation of the earmuffs, but this information also is incomplete since the lower half is missing. I’ve attached a picture of the instructions. These instructions have you snapping the earmuffs onto their bracket shown in an UP position (above the helmet) whereas the assembly comes in a DOWN position with a small restraining band holding them there. It looks as if it may not be possible to either rotate or lift this bracket to raise the earmuffs into an UP position above the helmet without possibly breaking the bracket. The bracket assembly includes side restraints which limit the rotation of the earmuff arm to about 45 degrees so to get them up above the helmet would require a swing of 180 degrees (see 2nd picture). There is no explanation about this. I installed the bracket into the helmet with the earmuffs in a DOWN position so as not to break anything and this seem to work ok.Next, I assembled the face shield onto its bracket and into the helmet and this seems to work ok.Next, I found the head suspension system in a separate bag with its own assembly instructions which are professionally written and illustrated. However, I realized that these head suspension instructions should be followed as the first steps since the head suspension system is supposed to go into the helmet 1st. Since I did it backwards, it was more difficult to install the head suspension system since the earmuff assemblies were already installed and, in the way, but I was able to do it anyway. After assembly, the helmet seems to fit well and is comfortable. The earmuffs seem to attenuate most ambient noise although I have not tried it with a chainsaw yet.I will update this review after I have used the helmet in the field a few times.UPDATE: Now that I have used this helmet several times for both weed whacking and chain sawing I would like to upgrade my rating to a 4. I find the helmet comfortable for long periods of time. The adjusting mechanism works well. The ear muffs work well and I didn't need additional ear plugs (even though my chain saw and weed whacker are both very loud). The screen does not stop all projectiles but the very small ones (small sand particles) that get through the screen are not dangerous unless you're not wearing glasses of some kind - so you have to wear glasses. The screen is easier to clean than a plastic shield since the grass/debris that sticks to it is easily brushed off when you're done. I found accidentally that the ear muffs do in fact lift up away from your head to a raised position, however it just doesn't "feel" like you should do this very often - like maybe it will break or wear out and lose it's spring tension in the lower position if you do this too many times. All in all I like this product and would recommend it - the biggest problem is the assembly instructions. So unpack everything and find the professionally written instructions for the helmet suspension system and assemble that first. Then go to the terribly written and illustrated 2nd set of instructions and follow those next. Once you have it all put together it works pretty well and is worth the price.
