Battery basically seems fine
This is a sealed, lead acid battery. It is being used in a home security system to replace an identical sized battery that failed after 8 years. Upon arrival this battery displayed 12.4 Volts, The security system has a 13.75 Volt charger.Lead acid batteries charge best with limited current with cutoff of charging at it's nominal Voltage of 13.8V.To bring the battery up to full charge of 13.75 Volts before installing in the system, I chose to limit current to 100 mA at 13.7 Volts because only 1.3 Watts of power would be generated inside the battery - not much heat, and charge it overnight.I did measure my security system charge current and found it self limited to 50 mA with cutoff at 13.75 V.. All good so far and if this battery fails within the next few years I will return and modify this post.Prior to buying this battery I read many posts about failures in FIOS applications and other uses for this battery with their failure reports. I don't know the FIOS power cycle but know if a lead acid battery is consistently discharged below about 11 volts (or even once totally discharged) or charged with currents above recommended ratings it is probably going to fail early. It might just be FIOS applications are requiring deep cycle type batteries that have different cycle requirements?Update: Early report - Battery is still working fine at 13.77V today (9/13/2014) in the security system. Had one house power outtage (15 minutes) from lightning storm few weeks ago but the security system worked fine.

Good battery for the price (if Amazon doesn't wreck them in shipment)
These get used several places around here, as are several other sizes of small sealed lead acid batteries. The UPG UB1280's are never the first to fail (I replace all of them when one fails). When taken out of backup service they are usually still in good shape and continue on in some other non-critical task. The service interval (determined by some other battery dying) is usually around 2 1/2 - 3 years. For this type of battery, and for this price, that's pretty good (and remember, they are still holding a charge well, and handling the occasional power outage, at that time - so 2&1/2 to 3 years is NOT their total life). One warning: the Amazon elves do not know how to package these for shipping (they aren't great packaging a good many heavy/dense items)! The last batch came one to a box, with nothing to keep them from banging around inside the box besides a couple of flimsy single-cavity plastic bubbles - which were, of course, punctured and deflated, leaving only a slick plastic film to lubricate the battery's gyrations inside the box during shipment. It is a testament to their quality of construction that, though some of the terminals were bent (easily bent back), and some corners slightly chipped, there was no sign of leakage or other substantial damage. I've had this problem before, but the most recent shipment was the worst. So far all of the batteries have arrived a bit battered or scratched up, but usable.

Same product as I was replacing.......but.
So this was spec'd the exact same as the battery I was replacing and when it arrived it looked the exact same.It was the same electrical ratings, but with a small difference, but before I get to that let me say that the battery worked great and I'm happy with that.Terminal connections on the new battery were wider than the old. Not a problem if you are handy, just replace the old spade connectors on your alarm system - done. But if you are not comfortable doing that, then be carefull and know the width of the spade connectors or be disappointed. So second small problem, there were a few dings on the exterior edges, but no cracking. Packaging appeared a little inadequate (skinny bubblebag) for a heavy little item. But saying that I'm not worried about the cosmetics for a part I'll never look at again.....just watch for cracking. It did take the alarm charging system about 12 hours to recognize the new battery so don't get worried if your battery indicator stays illuminated for a while. If it's not gone by the next day, then you might have a problem.Goods job on the shipping time, product arrived within a week, so no problems here. Overall pretty happy saved about 30%-40% over the store price.

Dependable and highly versatile 12vdc power source
I ordered this battery to power my new Hummingbird Fish Finder. While usually permanently mounted in a boat, I reconfigured the finder unit into a portable/mobile configuration. The ampere-hour capacity of this battery is sufficient to run the finder for many hours. Most important, when I received the battery, I put it on one of my automotive chargers, on a float charge. It evidently was pre-charged, and showed fully charged shortly thereafter. It's been about three weeks since I charged it, and when I put it back onto the charger yesterday, it nearly immediately went to "full charge." This tells me that it's holding its charge just fine. I've never had a bad experience with sealed lead-acid 12v batteries, and find them invaluable for so many applications. I should add that is an excellent backup source of 12vdc for your cell phones and accessories too. This is the second sealed lead-acid battery I've purchased through Amazon, and the other one is over 3 years old and also still holding a charge. Very good value.

Very capable replacement battery for home Battery Back Up systems.
When the Verizon box in my basement started beeping because the battery backup was no longer holding a charge it was time for a replacement. Since Verizon wanted $50 for a new battery there was no way I was going to get ripped off by them. I have purchased these replacement batteries before. They last for about 5 years. This is the standard size used in most of the home battery back up systems. I do not believe the more expensive batteries have any advantage or last longer. The fit is perfect. For $20.00, do it yourself and save. If you need 2 batteries the cost is even less. They are heavy so it must cost $10.00 to ship it, Amazon is the best way to buy these..Just remember you cannot return these batteries so make sure you order the right size for your system. . .
