I made candles in the late 60s and 70s. Doing so made one huge mess. I had to find steric acid to condition the crappy paraffin wax from the grocery store that shrinks as it cools, and refine the beeswax I used for batik to temper the paraffin so it would melt and burn more cleanly. Wicks came by the yard--limp, uncut, and unwaxed, so we'd have to prep them by sizing them to length, dipping them in wax, and trying to cool them straight hanging them on a taught string with clothespins. It was a real pain and made a mess. We used popsicle sticks with a tiny hole my dad drilled in them to hang the wicks over the top of the molds and used a drop of Elmer's glue to hold it to the bottom. This was "fiddly" to say the least. Then wait for the glue to dry before pouring or it would move. Fast forward to 2026 and this great kit. These wicks in the kit are "cut to length" for pint jars--so easy peasy and the results are professional quality. The soy wax, all flaked and ready to melt, the prepared wicks, the two sided sticky pads, and the metal holder designed for the pint jars eliminated all the mess and hassle. It's a snap! I'm done and waiting for it to cool in about fifteen minutes, spent watching over the melting pot. I can't say enough about the wicks and the ease of use--they uncomplicated old school candle-making for sure. They are mounted and pre-waxed so you can easily position them and they stay put as you pour. Anyone who can follow directions can make great candles!

I decided to make candles for Christmas gifts this year. As a non-crafty person in a family of very crafty people, this was a perfect kit for me! It contained almost everything I needed to start my new hobby. The only disappointing things were the essential oils that came with the kit. They don’t smell good. I purchased higher quality, better oils from somewhere else. I also purchased additional soy wax and some small mason jars. But I didn’t need to buy those to begin making candles. This kit includes wax, oils, wicks, stickers, colors, stirring sticks, a thermometer, small containers, and the melting pot. The only thing you will need that isn’t included is a kitchen scale. I am proud of the way my candles turned out and I’m excited to give them as gifts.
