This gun generates enough heat and is sufficiently controllable that it can be used on the general wiring in an automotive harness. However, it is too large to use on circuit boards or on connections to most electrical components. You can use it to make wire connections to connectors. It is taboo for anything electronic.

How do you holster this gun when not in use?

This gun does not come with a holster. There are other work station soldering gun kits that will have a metal ring that can hold the gun while in use. I feel like with a small amount of effort and a trip to your local hardware store you could make a holster.

What comes in the case besides the gun?

Two additional tip, small roll of solder. The lights on mine did not work when opened but the gun works fine.
