Helping You Traverse 3D
Super Mario 3D Land is not known for being especially hard. In fact, if anything, Super Mario 3D Land is a fairly simple game. The idea that anyone would actually need a guide in and of itself just seems fairly ludicrous. Especially because the game is fairly straightforward in just about every way. The levels are also short. Yet for what it's worth, for those who actually do find themselves in need of a leg up, the Super Mario 3D Land guide is useful. There's a lot packed in here, but mostly it's that it's a simple guide to use. Though it can be a little heavy on some of the text. The guide begins like just about every other guide out there. With all the basics. Things that it feels compelled to teach you because it knows you won't read a manual. Again, a pretty straightforward section. Mostly because it spends a bit more time getting you acquainted with the various enemies, power-ups etc. than getting you acquainted with the actual mechanics. While it offers some advanced tips for players, those who are proficient at Mario as it is will want to bypass this section entirely. There's nothing the guide will teach a master player that they don't already know. Even with the enemies list, you'll find that there isn't much this guide can teach you. That's not to say the guide is useless at all. Once we get into the walkthrough there's quite a bit for the guide to offer. In the first place, the maps are nice. Each section begins by displaying a map for you to use. It's a top down map, but for some places it can be useful. There are a lot of details to them. They'll point out all the items and hidden goodies just fine. They also point out check points. The guide relies on a waypoint system very similar to guides that were once produced by Nintendo Power. That is to say, on the map you'll see a number... then you'll have to find it in the text. There will be text describing what you must do at point 1 on the map. It isn't too terrible about holding the players hand in some regards. It doesn't tell you anything about advancing from Point 1 to Point 2. It only describes what to do at these particular points. By far anyone wanting the guide will be more appreciative of the call outs to the Star Medals more so than anything else. Most of the time the maps are on a single page, with all the text following later. You're not likely to need the maps much. They won't call out enemies or anything like that, but this is hardly a problem. There is quite a bit of detail to the guide. It covers every level. The normal stages and the special ones. And the details can sometimes be heavy handed. It's a fairly well designed walkthrough. The screenshots, however, are a little fuzzy. The guide doesn't describe much in the way of secrets. In fact, once you get beyond the exhaustive walkthrough there are only tables that tell you how many star coins you'll need to unlock specific stages and a table to tell you about the star rankings. In short, the guide isn't bad at all. It provides everything that the player will need to find everything they want and some info for it all. It's a straightforward game, sure, but when it comes to collecting some of the Star Coins especially, it helps. For those who might need that leg up, there's nothing wrong with looking to this guide for some answers.
