Works great if you pay attention to the details
After reading the previous reviews about this product, I was hesitant to buy it for my office remodel project. I've used the Minwax Bombay Mahogany ClearShades product for 15 years now with a great level of success. However, I needed to change the finish on some honey oak cabinets and drawers, but didn't want to deal with the contours of the cabinets and drawer faces. A spray-on product would have been ideal... if it worked.I purchased 4 cans of this stuff initially. I figured, if one or two cans (out of the four) didn't spray correctly, I would at least get one or two good cans. All four of my initial cans sprayed and worked perfectly. I shook the cans well before use, I used it outside on a warm sunny day, and I applied thin even coats each time. The spray comes out as a fine mist and applies smoothly, as long as you keep a steady hand movement. I found that a distance of 4 inches from the work surface worked best for me. I would strongly recommend that you keep your sweeping motions in the same direction as the grain, since the overlapping bands of spray can leave "dark and light stripes" on your project. I didn't think about this initially, and then realized after my first cabinet door had dried, that I had conflicting 90-degree lines (the grain versus the spray pattern). Once I corrected this on the other cabinet doors, it looked great. It even helps to enhance the wood grain a little, in my opinion.I will say, however, that this spray on product is no where near as tough as the traditional product. After fully drying, this spray on product will come off with just a firm fingernail scratch - whereas the traditional roll/brush/rub-on product is much tougher when it's fully dried. It's probably stronger if it goes onto unfinished wood, but since I was changing from honey oak to this color, it went over a lightly sanded varnish, and it's not terribly durable. Luckily, these cabinets won't get a lot of wear and tear, so it should be fine for a long time.I would also recommend to anyone considering this product that it's best to keep the work surface as vertical as possible. If the surface is horizontal (like a board laying on a table), the can has a hard time spraying evenly as a result of how spray cans work. If you turn the can too horizontal, it'll sputter and spit and spray unevenly. The other side of this problem is that if you keep your work surface vertical and apply too much spray, it'll end up running down your project and create drips. So - keep your project vertical if possible, and make light/thin coats. One of these cans will spray approximately 5 cabinet doors (18"x24") with one even coat. You should probably use the whole can in one sitting, if possible, they don't seem to "keep" well. If you have to stop and come back later, I would recommend clearing the nozzle by turning the can upside down and spraying for a couple of seconds. Otherwise the nozzle gets clogged and the rest of the can is pretty useless.I have since purchased and used almost 20 cans of this stuff and have been very happy with it.

Easy to use, covers well
I initially tried applying the brush on stain but failed miserably.I bought this, sanded the ild stain off then applied this spray on stain. It worked great.Light coats until I achieved the desired shade. Couldnt be easier. The can nozzle sprayer worked perfectly with no clogging.

Great product ... pitiful packaging.
The product is great. I've used the spray polyshades product for years and much prefer it over the brush on version because it is easy to control the quantity of product being applied. If you have a project employing both hardwood and veneer of the same wood species it is virtually impossible to purchase both veneer and hardwood with the same tinted even though they're the same species. By utilizing the various polyshades colors you can "adjust" the tints of both quite easily so that they end up matching. The reason for only 4 stars is because the packaging was quite poor causing the cap to be broken. I was fortunate that the product managed to stay in the can and not be sprayed all over the inside of the box. Shame on whoever did the packaging.

Saved a piece of furniture
I was ready to chuck a piece of furniture that came way lighter than advertised, but thought I'd give this a try. If it didn't work out I could still chuck it. Two applications later, the furniture is not only the perfect color but also has a really shiny, glossy sheen. It's now my favorite piece in the room.

Great in theory but don’t bother
As some reviewers have stated, there is barely any pigment to this. It doesn’t impart any color really at all.The directions to say that the first coat will go on sheer and it’s meant to, and that you can build color with additional coats. So Stupid Me - I bought a second can...first of all, the stuff does not go far at all. I did two small hampers with two cans. Letting each coat dry in between for four hours or more. Each small piece now has at least four coats, and it’s made absolutely no difference in the color (started and ended as a light tan wicker. i bought the Antique Walnut spray).Waste of money and ineligible for return. Boo ☹️

Great value easy to use way less time spent
This is a before and after. I used the Bombay Mahogany polyurethane spray on the 2nd pic. It was super easy to use and went on smoothly. I absolutely love this product!! I highly recommend it. It so easy and the time saving is unbelievable!! So much easier than staining by hand and with the polyurethane already in the spray no need to clear coat it afterwards!!! Would give it 10 stars if I could!!

Expensive but did a good job to bring back color on some faded wood doors.
I used this product to bring back the color on some cherry doors in my kitchen that faded from the sun. I got a pretty good match with the doors that were not faded by picking right shade and number of coats. The issues with it is that the spray nozzle produced a lot of over-spray and wasted product, the results were not even unless you used several coats, and even though the can color is pretty accurate it would take at least 5 coats to get that color. All in all it took 2 1/2 cans using 5 light coats to cover one side of 5 doors or about 2000 sqin total. I would definitely not use this product for new or refinishing on large projects as it is pretty expensive for the coverage you get. For large projects you will get a way better finish and cheaper to use Minwax's wipe on stain and then finish with there quick dry spray polyurethane. I also tried the Polyshades brush on version but it is virtually impossible to get an nice, even appearance.
