Sturdy and keeps the cold out
This version of the pet door is made really well and keeps the cold out much better with three flaps. The only issue I had was that the door I previously had with one flap (same brand) was larger. You would think there would be continuity within the brand, but I got it anyway because of it's quality and low price compared to other brands. I ended up cutting a three-foot wooden measuring stick into pieces to fill the gaps and nailed them in, which worked perfectly. Another thing to think about is that the cover for this dog door slides up and down on a track (which I like better) instead of the one flap cover that you push on and pull off. If I wanted to keep my dogs outside for any reason they could just push through the door cover. The only caveat about the three flap cover though is that if you have blinds that are set inside a door window (and have a frame) the dog door cover will hit the frame if you don't ease it off every time.

Easy to install and good for cold weather.
This was a replacement for PetSafe single flap screen door. It was straightforward to install and helps reduce the draft that we were getting with our previous door. My two small dogs were able to acclimate to the new door with no problem and my house isn’t fighting the cold draft as much as we did with the previous version of this door. The two exterior flaps and one center insulated flap really help to make sure that there is no air coming in.

Great once installed
Was quite a pain to get installed in the same placement as our old door of the same size from the same manufacturer but not the 3 layer. Had to drill some holes on the sides of the hole in my door. love the more sturdy construction! The edges curve to go flush with the door, the screws are metal (comes with plastic ones too but I hated them in the old one so opted for the sturdier seeming metal), the 3 layers all work well and seem to insulate more effectively while still being functional for my dogs. My 2 30 lb dogs almost immediately got used to the change, My 10 lb dog was definitely more hesitant and still sometimes just barks on the outside of it as if he can’t get through, but he can and is fine lol The cover/closure is so much more functional than the old snap on covers! Love the slide! I can take it off with just a slight tug and lift which would have come in handy after I got hand surgery before the replacement and had a heck of a time getting the old one off lol Overall, sooo happy with this!

A nice XL dog door that could be so much better.
We have the Extreme Weather XL dog door for our 85 lb Boxer and 140 lb Cane Corso. I would give it 5 stars for the first 6 months, 4 stars for the next 6 months, and 3 stars after the 1-year mark. I was impressed with the quality and fit when I received the door, the problem is it didn't hold up for long. "Extreme Weather" is misleading, at best I would say it's a 3-flap version. Due to the size of an XL large door, nothing keeps the weather out, especially on windy days. I hoped for a little more considering it's called "Extreme Weather" and was a more expensive. I'm having to replace the flaps more often, the 6-screw design helps avoid tearing where the screw holds the flap. After a year the bottom edges of the flaps began tearing evenly about two inches from the bottom (same on both flaps, inside and outside, and the left and right side). They all tore the same, it's apparent it needs someone to revisit the design and material. Other issues with the material are shrinkage and bowing of the outside flaps. The center flap, insulating flap, comes apart along both seams. The center flap is basically a piece of thin foam sandwiched between two heat sealed pieces of plastic. It doesn't appear they "designed" an XL large, weather resistant door, for large breed dogs. They just made a larger dog door based on their other models. I don't think consideration was given to the size of the dogs hitting that flap dozens of times per day, or the force of the wind on the larger door. The material looks identical to the smaller door we had and doesn't hold up to large dogs. The first time I used the large plastic cover to block it on a windy day I didn't notice the Cane Corso was still outside. Not a problem, she hit it at full puppy speed knocking the cover clear across the room, popping several of the screws out of the frame. She was very excited with her accomplishment. I can't imagine a home without a dog door. They use it night and day, sometimes just to stick their head out to check the weather. We had a large dog door until our new pup had trouble squeezing through. The large door worked very well. I saved it for the future. We replaced the flap every 2-3 years and needed to make a better attachment system due to the flaps tearing near the screws and plastic attachments breaking.

Great door.
This is our third petsafe door. All have lasted many years. We only need a new one because we moved. No complaints. My 12 pound cat up to my 80 pound Doodle all used it with ease!! Kept out the wind and snow when we were in Montana. Keeps out the dust and bugs in Arizona.

Mine is defected
So far this pet door seems to close well with minimal drafts, but there appears to be a defect with mine in that the tracks on the inside of the door for the cover aren't wide enough to fit it to close it. I can only close it from the outside, which isn't good for security.. not sure if I would want to bother uninstalling it and getting it replaced or trying to make my own cover for the inside out of sheet metal or something. Update: contacted customer support, they were great and are sending me a new one
