Sci Fi is not my favorite venue.

I read this book with my eleven year old daughter and we both loved it! I had read it when I was about her age and It made a big impression in my life... Now I hope it has also made an impression on hers...

A beautifully written story that is for all seasons and all the ages. Og Mandino weaves a story of a young boy who is now the sole caretaker of his young sister.It's cold in the far reached of the North Pole. Tulo 's village is in dire need of a light source. Tulo and his sister set out to snag a star in his mighty kite. Tulo eventually makes the greatest sacrifice to save his sister and their town . He captures a star, Acabar, who talks to him on their journey to Tulo 's village. Acabar is not just any star, discover his secret and the wisdom he imparts as you read their story, The Gift of Acabar.

Og has a way to capture his readers and release them with the very last words. This book is a quick read with a strong message of Faith. You will not be disappointed.

A brother and little sister are left alone and overcome great adversity by relying on one another and more importantly the Gift of Acabar! Amen.

I read The Gift of Acabar as a young mother and it captured my heart. I feel that books we read come and go in our lives and we forget most of them but not this little book - it remains tucked in my memory as a beautifully written story of a boy named Tulo and the shining star Acabar given to Tulo who continued to believe in miracles. My original book is yellow with age and torn in places from age and handling by members of my family. I recently ordered a copy from Amazon which is in excellent condition. I never want my personal library to be without a copy of this magical read to introduce to my grandchildren.

This book is a must-read for bookworms! My husband, who is an Og Mandino fan introduced this to me and my daughter after having read Mandino's The Greatest Miracle in the World. My 9-year-old daughter gives this book a thumbs up and a 5-star rating. So full of positives and inspiration that if you are in the stage right now of hopelessness, you'll feel encouraged about life.

This is a wonderful book to snuggle up and read in one hit. It's particularly nice to give as a gift too.

Lost my copy after loaning it out several years ago and as this was the first book I read by this author I wanted to replace it. All his book are short and contain a moral but are so positive and readable they should be part of school reading lists
