Haft Paykar: A Medieval Persian Romance

I appreciate having access to this classic but, for the price, would have liked a better quality book, if nevertheless, used.

I've read the original Persian growing up in Iran. The English translation is truly amazing. The essence of Nizami's magical and colorful poetry is so well reflected.

It's apparently a good translation of a classical Persian work, which like so many things of that region, seems to be aching to escape from the straight-jacket of closed-minded narrow Islamic dogma.

I wish I could read this in the original. But I can’t. Still, the translation is beautiful, and the explanations lucid.

I am delighted with this, a thoroughly readable translation which helps me get what I want from the writing - the significance and use of colour.
