There could be cosmetic damage that is not supposed to be visible at arm's length, but any other damage is supposed to be repaired before you buy it. The reason Amazon Renewed Store has tons of reviews of MacBooks from people who have vastly different experiences is probably because none of them actually come from Amazon -- it's a ton of different third parties that Amazon certifies, and that certification doesn't seem to guarantee much, other than that you're entitled to complain if you get a messed up device. I'll post a detailed review (probably too detailed) when I get mine, but there are already a ton, so idk if mine will help much.

In case there's any doubt, Angelika St Fleurose is correct. The 15" 2019 model has a digital escape key on the touch bar, while the 16" 2019 model has a physical one.
