What a value!
I agree that one of the reviews of this product were critical of the use of the term "Damascus" steel. I respect that view, but in general terms, that's what we use to indicate this type of metal forging today, even if it's not technically the same as that performed in Damascus eons ago. The fact is, this sword is wonderful! I had a family member who made this kind of blade in the past, so I know enough about it to be dangerous. I was not expecting this kind of quality for under $300! For me, this is a show piece as a gift. It will never be used in any way like a real sword, yet the weight, balance, and finish are impressive. I am 100% totally satisfied, and amazed to be able to give this kind of gift at a price I could actually afford.

This is a beautiful katana!
I’ve been looking for a similar katana that looks like the mortal blade from Sekiro Shadows Die Twice. This is very similar and beautifully designed! I had to buy a second one to gift a friend.

Best in this Price Range.
So having been to Japan and getting to witness the process of Nohanto Katana making in the traditional sense and seeing the work put into it and the many many years of experience required, I wasnt expecting much from this sword at this price point. Typically what I've found with sub 1k swords is loose fittings that were pulled out of a box and slapped on a large manufactured sword with little to no care out into a tight fit and cheap glues or imitation materials used to substitute the real thing. I was extremely impressed by this sword and its very well manufactured details. The tsuba (hand guard) is detailed and the details loo clean. Not hand carved obviously but very clean and refined. The tsaya is wood with some kind of finish on it that I'm not sure about but it fits around the blade and other brass fittings extremely tight and leaves a nice and snug fit with no rattling and i have confidence that the katana will not fall out when held upside down and shaken like most swords in this price range. The transitions from the fittings in the gashira to the tsuka to the fuchi and tsuba are all smooth and dont have any edges that would rub your hands raw or cut you during cutting. The homon isn't as crisp as i dont think they did the final polishing on the blade to keep cost low,, but it still shines beautifully and appears to be an authentic homon from differential heat treatment. I am not experienced or skilled enough to determine if the grain or patterning of the "folds" is real or the result of some kind of chemical treatment but it definitely looks excellent and ads a nice look to the blade. It arrived extremely sharp (paper test) and seemed to be very well made overall. I will definitely be trying it out on some bamboo soon and have high expectations for this sword. Will definitely be ordering more from this company.
