Great backpack, wish they would add attachments to carry a hiking pole.
Great backpack, I wish they would add attachments to carry hiking poles. I purchased this as my first backpack became too small very quickly as I added spikes and hiking poles etc. to my bag. The zipper that makes this larger is almost useless and it does not have any attachments for hiking poles although I was able to use some Velcro and make it work. The size is pretty good for a day trip. I added my own whistle even though it came with one built it, I did not feel it was a fantastic whistle but better than nothing of course. The back was not some thing I expected, it’s actually hard and I did not like it for the first hour but then I became used to it and it is fine. I’m pretty sure they designed it that way to help prevent as much sweating. It probably does help. The padding on the sides is not as much as my first one but I have found that it is sufficient. One of the big reasons I chose this bag was that it did have the two side mesh holders for my water bottle and chamois. A lot of other backpacks only allow for a bladder which I do not like. This one does allow for a bladder, I just do not use that feature. All in all I believe it is a very good backpack and I would give it a five star if it had attachments for hiking poles and if the expansion zipper allowed for more expansion and it was waterproof. It comes with a small pocket at the very bottom that holds a rain cover for the backpack. I like that it is built in and comes with a rain cover but I do not like that the backpack itself is not waterproof, a decent rain and it is definitely getting wet.

Held up well and pretty good for the price!
I bought this backpack, along with three others from Amazon, in an attempt to find a cheaper but still comfortable hiking alternative to a 20L Osprey backpack I found at REI. This little bag did the trick! I used it to hike for hours at a time out in Utah, and used it to carry three water bottles, several snacks, and some extra clothes. While the waist flaps were smaller than I expected, it also meant they stayed out of the way when I wasn't using them. The combination of the waist strap + frame helped distribute the weight of the bag extremely well; the heaviness of my belongings never felt like an obstacle or something I was dying to put down. The external frame helped keep the main part of the pack off my back, and the resulting air flow prevented me from getting too sweaty. And although the straps were quite thin, they were actually far more comfortable than the overly-padded, mesh-covered straps of the other Amazon backpacks. Finally, the side pockets held both my water bottles very securely, and in a way that the bottles never got in the way of my elbows like they do with my North Face bag.The reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish the bag had more pockets and had the ability to expand more. It has a zipper that expands the pack a bit, but I didn't really feel it made a difference. Also, the top corners of the external frame chafed my shoulders somewhat, to the point that it left two red spots on my upper back after several hours of hiking in a sleeveless top. But still, this bag performed surprisingly well for the price and I'll definitely be using it again.

Just what I was looking for
This small backpack is just what I was looking for: small, sturdy, lightweight, big enough to hold a few groceries for my bike trip home. The rain guard is an extra bonus for the surprise Boston rain. I also appreciate that I could get it in a yellow color - hi vis for biking in the city.

This backpack is great!
I commute by bicycle and this backpack does everything I need for commuting. Holds 2 waterbottles on the sides, can put a water bladder inside, hauls my laptop, clothes, towel, lunch. It has a nice pouch/case for my cell phone and wallet, rain cover, and small pouches in different places. Great design!

No good for tall people
Had some discomfort as ithers have described, for the waist to sit i had to run the main straps long, which left the frame digging into my shoulders, also its not that winderfully breathable because the "floating" frame and mesh just sits against the pack, theres no gap, no spacers. The packs with mesh covered pads with the large gaps work a lot better for airflow and comfort imo. It was nice to see the straps for the bladder, but they were too short even though the bladder has the slider attachment at the very top. Material is thin and ive owned it before its pretty tough stuff but it will slice wide open if a knife touches it, its not waterproof in the way they advertise (see i can do wordplay and not get deleted too) it has a plastic silver cover that isnt really designed to fit the pack. Think swimming cap for a giant. Only silver. That was shady advertising.Oh and the straps are a bit wide, im tall and it felt like it was sliding off a lot, my orher oack has narrower strap positions and doesnt do it, its just oddly proportioned. Would say good for smaller riders but not with those wide shoulder straps.

water bladder pack masquerading as a daypack
this is a 2L-3L water bladder pack masquerading as a daypack or student pack, in photos you can see the size difference to a standard 21 Liter JanSport, the elastic helmet tarp will not close over an adult bike helmet, this will barely close around a typical 15.5" (numeric keypad) notebook while stretched so flat that there is no room for much else. you'd would not be able to close this pack around more than 2 college textbooks. it does have a modest expansion zipper, but it's probably meant for hugging firm different 2L or 3L capacity water bladders, not actually providing more usable space. this is the tragic flaw with this pack; because it was designed to hold a water bladder firmly, any other expansions you'd find in a daypack are not accommodated here. the mesh frame was a potential back cooling design, but it's effect is lost on such a tiny pack. at least 3 tri-glide slides were not included (2 shoulder 1 chest) so straps are left flailing about and likely to loosen during wear. most of the flap pockets are too small to get an adult size hand in. testing with a flashlight the fabric layers contrast but do not reflect light.

Perfect daypack, light and comfortable
I needed a back pack that was limited in size that I was taking with me to Machu Picchu. They have fairly strict size limits. This backpack fit the bill. I also needed a pack to take with me on day hikes. This pack is nice and light. It fits extra clothes and/or snacks, the side sleeves fit my water bottle (not all do), and the expanding compartment is useful. The curved frame combined with the mesh panel works really well to prevent sweating across the back. The padded shoulder straps are comfortable. I haven't felt any discomfort wearing it so far. The rain cover is a bonus, although I haven't had to test out its efficacy yet. Overall I am very pleased with this pack, especially given the reasonable price. And the range of colours is great. I got the red, which looks really nice.
