Excellent
I purchased to pull soil samples from my yard without making holes with a shovel. I pulled soil from 16 areas and left no trace of damage to my turf. It's built well, sharpened on the end, which makes it easy to push into the ground. The large T-handle makes it even easier to push down and twist to obtain the best sample at your desired depth. Soil stays in the tube by design, so when you pull the probe from the soil, you do not lose your sample. It functions perfectly. Would I buy another...no, because this is built well enough to last my lifetime. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who needs one.

Well Made, Sturdy
I wish I had purchased a longer soil probe. Maybe it's the soil in my yard, ground was damp enough to get samples, but it was a bear to push this tester in the ground, and near impossible to extract the sample it did pull out. I did end up using a wooden dowel to push it through. Thankfully, soil Analysis won't be needed to often. It is a fairly nice tool. Sturdy, maybe a little large in diameter. (Based on a more professional tester I had years ago.) But for home use, you can't go wrong, just get something a bit longer so you won't be on your knees.

Excellent product and did the job.

built like a tank.
Solid, heavy construction. I would have no concerns about using a mallet to drive this into tough soils. The handle is comfortable, and is solidly attached to the shaft. The open slot makes sample removal easy, although you tend to get a 1/2 cylinder of soil sample, rather than a nice round cylinder. It is nice to not need a push stick to pop a sample out of the tool.

Essential for soil sampling
Simple, well made, easy to clean, needed for soil sampling. Used this to discover lack of micronutrients in my potted citrus trees. Able to pull up soil from several inches below the drip line. An elegant solution!

Does the job with some effort
Do yourself a favor and buy the long 36” or longer model. These you have to get on your knees to use ( and yes I realized that when I bought hem but didn’t realize how old I am) and it’s hard to get enough force to push them in the ground. If you have really loose soil they will work fine. You can put your body weight behind the taller ones.

Built like a tank
Raised garden beds have somewhat soft soil so no problems. Clay soil in pasture is much harder so just take a little at a time, empty, repeat, so you don't jam it full. I only test every two years so it isn't a problem but like the others said you will have a hard time getting it down to 5-6 inches in hard ground. Getting anything into hard clay is a problem but not the tools fault. I didn't try pounding it with a hammer but it seems to be built strong enough for a few hits. I order the short one, like a foot long.

Works perfectly as intended, I was able to pull various plugs from various areas in my lawn in order to send out for testing.

did the job and solid but sometime ask myself, good quality but is it worth?

A built in piston to push out soil samples from top to bottom would be a great improvement, rather than trying to remove the sample inch by inch , by prying out the dirt with a knife or rod

Nice tool. However, be careful, edge on that tool are very sharps when you remove soil on it. Thanks to Mr Band-Aid!
