How do you place the drill bit in the hammer drill, I have been working on this task for a few hours,it do not grip the bits at all.

Just push the bit in until it clicks,there is nothing to tighten.You may have to turn the bit to line the grove up & pull back on the collar for it to seat. release pull the collar back to the drill,slide the bit out.

Does this unit have the option of variable positions for chisel bit?

Yes, it can lock in position either horizontally or vertically, as I have used it in both positions. It may lock in other angles, but I have not tried it in angles other than parallel or perpendicular to the handle. I also will mention that this unit has performed admirably and I have absolutely no regrets with my purchase. I was able to remove old tile (put down in the 1950's with thick-set. I found it works best at lower speeds and sharp angles of attack. Take your time and you won't work up any sweat, letting the tool do the work. Hope this helps.

Does this have a 3rd setting to drill w/o hammer option so can core drill

It has 3 options: 1: drill without hammer, only spining, 2: drill with hammer, 3: hammer only for chisel. No spinning...

No torque rating? Does anyone know the torque rating or max hole saw size in wood and steel?

I don't know that I would use it for wood, though I guess you could. It can be set to drill, to jack hammer, or to drill and jackhammer combined. Also, don't know about torque, but I found it to be sufficient for all applications I've tried it in. It is surprisingly powerful and durable for a snall handheld unit.

Quality drill at good price

This drill is amazing. The drill was able to make a pilot hole in my concrete slab easily. It cut through it like a hot butter knife. I had previously tried using a cordless hammer drill and it just could not get the job done. This DeWalt drill is tough and sold at a good price.

Favorite Chisel

I purchased this for the chisel feature. I had quite a bit of concrete to break through and this did the job. It was easy to put the bits in, the size of the bits are easy to obtain. it seems heavy duty and will last a long time.

Should of bought along time ago instead of renting one

Wow...just wow.This drill goes through huge Boulders with no issue..Nice but in good shape and it goes so easySometimes I don't need 2 hands, but need 2 hands to hold drill from spinning...Outside my yard have huge rocks I'm chopping into pieces to get out....This Hammer drill and drill bits makes it sooo much easier...Should of bought along time ago.I have boulders over 4 feet wide I'm going to cut into pieces..I also bought some rock splitting wedges..OMG those work awesome on splitting.Love this

Works great but gets HOT fast!

This is an outstanding tool for taking down concrete block walls. Good weight distribution and plenty of power. Bit stays in place and changes easily. My only dislike is that it gets very hot on the lower section, so hot you can't touch the casing! It doesn't seem to affect the function and the top part stays cool. Wear thick gloves and you'll be fine.
