Biased and boring.
Some things to consider: Pictures are great but we’ve seen them all before, there’s nothing new here and that’s disappointing. The authors have a crazy bias for Rolex and Patek Philippe . It’s not even close to being fair to all the brands that made up the history of horology. It’s like Rolex is the be all and end all. Followed by Patek Philippe. Between the two brands there is little space for the rest. And finally the book is very expensive. I expected much more for the money. I have buyers remorse. The authors have such great relationships with all the watch brands and could have given us some great insight, but they didn’t do that. They just gave us regurgitated stories and celebrity pictures of famous people wearing their Rolexes and Pateks. Such a disappointment. I can not in good conscience recommend anyone buy this book. See if you can find it in the public library if you must. To be fair, if you know nothing about watches, well I still wouldn’t recommend you buy the book.

NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
The workmanship of the binding is absolutely embarrassing. This is a very expensive book that I bought as a gift for someone. I saw him today and handed him the book, still shrinkwrapped. The interior pages are coming loose from the binding! Assouline should be ashamed for putting out such poorly made products. It's killing its own brand. No more Assouline books for me, and hopefully none for you either.

Title should be "Watches of Europe"
A nicely written and produced book that doesn't cover much new ground for most watch collectors, being better suited to novice collectors and the casual reader. However, the authors seem to still be resentful over the so-called Quartz Crisis and before that the drubbing that Seiko gave the Swiss in the observatory chronometer trials of the '60s. I can think of no other explanation for why this book all but completely ignores the multitude of contributions of the Asian manufacturers, particularly those of Grand Seiko, King Seiko, and Credor. Shame on you Hodinkee!
