Yes, this backpack does have the added protection at the bottom for durability. But what it does not have is "shock absorbing shoulder straps" as stated in the description... but they are padded, which is not the same.Following is my original review of this backpack... but I received no response from Amazon or SwissGear... and the description has not been updated:We're disappointed with the purchase of this SwissGear "Legacy" backpack thru Amazon. The description states that it has "shock absorbing shoulder straps"... but they are basic padded shoulder straps... and the pictures of the upper portion were not clear enough to make that evident. I have the larger "Pegasus" version of this backpack that truly has the shock absorbing shoulder straps, which are wonderful for heavy loads. This backpack was purchased for my daughter to use at college for lugging around her books and smaller laptop specifically because of that feature. We are happy with every other feature of this "Legacy" backpack as they are very similar to my "Pegasus" one. The product description needs to be updated so that others looking for this shock absorbing feature are not disappointed with this version.

Does this complies with the measures requested by airlines to be a personal item?
