Is the bottom well padded?

There is no padding on the bottom of the laptop compartment. Every time I set it down on a hard surface I can hear my laptop impacting the surface. There is a dent in the corner of my laptop now.

Can anyone comment on how sturdy this backpack is. My caselogic's straps are falling apart after 6 months of use.

I've had this backpack for 5 months I believe and I love it. No negative comments on it. I must say I don't use it everyday but so far everything's good.

It should fit fine! I have 17.3 laptop also. Asus ROG (40.9 x 31.8 x 5.1 cm) and fits perfect. The compartment dimensions I don't know.
