I had a one-sided adhesive magnet I put on the back of my machine, being sure it was high enough on the backside for the light to get over the machine to where I needed it. Unfortunately, the cord kept getting in the way & moved the light or pulled it off all together.

It should not, as long as it is mounted on a flat surface. Whomever designed the light wanted to prevent the magnet from scratching the surface, and affixed a thin rubber O-ring around the edge of the magnet. The O-ring contacts the surface, not the magnet itself, to inhibit scratching surface finish. I hope this is helpful.
