The dark fantasy follows a high school sophomore named Akihito Kanbara. Although the boy appears human, he is half youmu and invulnerable to wounds because he can heal quickly. One day, Akihito meets freshman Mirai Kuriyama when it seems she is about to jump from the school rooftop. Mirai is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is unique even among members of the spirit world. Disturbing events begin to unfold after Akihito saves Mirai.

Wonderful Anime; Disappointing Absences
The score itself isn't reflective of the anime itself but rather what is (or in this case isn't) in the package.Let start of with the anime. The anime is fantastic with a great Japanese voice cast (have not listened to the show with the English dub), fantastic animation by the renown Kyoto Animation, and a beautiful story to top it all off. What drags down this supposed "Complete Collection" is the complete absence of the OVA episode that is included ONLY with the Premium Set that includes a bunch of tiny extras and a hefty price tag for the small additions added to that set. This is disappointing, as in the past Sentai regularly included OVAs in all their "Complete Collections", regardless if it was a special edition or not.The complete absence of the OVA and any extras really devalues the blu-ray. And that is heartbreaking to say about a blu-ray to one of my favorite anime in the last five years.

I rolled the dice, and won!
With this anime I did something I swore I would never do. And that is buy a bluray of a show I've never seen or heard of. But I was pleasantly surprised. The story was solid and well executed, the animation was fluid and beautiful, and the voice acting for both Japanese and English were really good. I was skeptical when I saw it was only 12 episodes long. With a show that short you're kind of rolling the dice. Some of the best shows I've seen have been about that length, as well as the worst ones I've ever seen. This one is a winner though. I felt connected to the characters by the end, and wanted them to succeed. I laughed with them and even cried with them. I just can't get enough of this one.

Good anime
This anime is pretty good. Even though it is short there is a go amount of stuff going on early that you won’t understand at all then makes more sense later on so a second watch is probably needed to really understand things. There are also some confusing situations that again in the moment you won’t have a clue what is happening. The animation is very well done. The characters aren’t anything special. This is honestly one of those anime’s that reaches the good category, and unfortunately for me that category is pretty big and although I like them they usually become forgettable but that being said watching them isn’t regrettable. There are a handful that make the amazing category and those are unforgettable and really that’s the only reason I gave 4 stars. I have nothing negative to say other than other anime’s are better and overshadow it.

Great resolution and awesomely delivered product.
I did really like the plot. The main female lead does take on the persona of the common stereotype, so it was almost a turn off, and there are a few other stereotypical elements that are a bit of a let down; however, this is a Japanese anime, so given where its coming from, it had a decent delivery of her being far more dynamic than the exterior model you initially see. Without giving away too much, the lead female character does end up showing quite a lot more backbone than initially implied.Further, it concludes well while tying everything back up into a nice scenario. All-too-often, I watch series like this one, and they don't end up ending things by resolving all of the conflict. Overall, it had great dynamics between the characters (again for a JAnime), and although not my favorite anime, this one was surprisingly good despite a few rough spots in characters' first impressions.

Surprisingly enjoyable! Cute, funny, and interesting concept!
Bought this for my girlfriend for Christmas. We sat down and watched it together. I will admit, I actually enjoyed this anime. It was funny, cheesy and even confusing at times (which meant it had a deeper backstory that I actually had to focus on and think about). You don't even learn why it is called Beyond the Boundary until the last few episodes. For a short anime series (12 episodes I think?) I would recommend this. It contains all of your expected Japanese/Anime tropes; the overuse of the term Senpai, a character that is attracted to his sister, an otaku, a bitchy pretty bad ass, and really obscure characters that support the story narrative.

Dumb and annoying anime
Not sure how to kindly say this but......... this anime is dumb, stupidThey made some dumb decisions and choices by making the main characters mom dumb, the girl that is the main characters love interest is dumb AND annoying and you just can’t find any character in this anime to root for. The main character himself is annoying as heckOverall this anime was mightily disappointing

5 out of 5
One of my favorite series ever.I love the animation, I love the story line, I love the characters. I originally watched this on Crunchyroll on a whim but I adore it with all my heart now. I haven't watched the dub, so I don't know about that aspect of this, but I really enjoyed the sub.

A brilliantly dark fantasy tale, where blood truly is thicker than water!
Kyoukai No Kanata or Beyond the Boundary as it’s known in English is set in the world of Youmu (demons) and the spirit world warriors who hunt them for fame and fortune. The story follows the high schooler Akihito Kanbara, a half Youmu, who one day runs into fellow schoolmate Mirai Kuriyama just as she is about to jump from the roof of the school. Mirai is a Spirit world warrior but is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is unique even among members of the spirit world. However it is the series of disturbing events that take place after this chance meeting that leads us into the real heart of the story. This series is a touch darker than some and as such mostly follows themes of isolation and the “desire to belong”. This being mixed in with the day to day workings of the spirt world and the battles against the Youmu makes for some interesting scenes as things start to twist and the darker home truths come into play later in the series. It isn’t all doom and gloom however and there are in fact several scenes of nicely placed comedy throughout the series as well as an entire episode that focuses on this. Touching moments are also plenty and while not a strong as some other shows, can still give a good tug on the heartstrings so on the whole I find the series to be nicely balanced. The animation of this series is a major highlight, being a work of the renowned Kyoto Animation, this show simply oozes visual quality and it is clearly show thought the series from the complex action sequences all the way down to the subtle facial expressions on the characters themselves. The soundtrack for the series is also worth a mention as it does a fantastic job of melding together a dark fantasy tale and really does cover all bases from uplifting guitar riffs to dramatic piano solos and everything in-between.Overall I would recommend a watch of this show. With its beautiful visuals and soundtrack, good mix of action and fantasy elements along with splashes of comedy there really is a lot to like here. For alternative recommendations I would look towards Noragami - Complete Series Collection Blu-ray which also deals with supernatural events in the spirit world. For those looking for an even darker fantasy twist I would suggest taking a look into Puella Magi Madoka Magica Complete Series Collection [Blu-ray ]. Blu-ray is fine, show itself is terrible
I was hoping the show would be better than it is, but it's not a very engaging show and seems to just sort of start half way through the story, with no build up to the main characters meeting or getting to bond, regardless of this the blu-ray is fine and works perfectly as a blu-ray disk.
