Outstanding Research!
Hats off to Michael Willian. If you love Casablanca, he provides you with hundreds of details and insights. The book not only provides fascinating insights of the movie, but also how many relate to the WWII time period and the state if movie making then.

GREAT REFERENCE FOR ANY 'CASABLANCA' FAN
Great details, research, and neat trivial information. Covers every scene in the movie. Great maps of the buildings and sets (ie. airport, streets) Interesting what if? and What about? questions with answers. Behind the movie information about the actors, production people, and movie company. Provides knowledgeable information about sets, props, and extras that are movie too fast or props sighted in split seconds edited shots. Answers some unanswered questions that have bothered fans for a long time The only problem is sometimes the minutia about French signs and posters are too much information that actually slows down the presentation.

Must have book for any fan of "Casablanca"
Absolutely incredibly detailed book on the great film "Casablanca". No matter how many times you have seen the film, this book will give you new information and insights. I wanted to write a book like this one. But Michael Willian's book does it all! Love the analysis and the diagrams of Rick's Cafe which are accurate. There is a diagram of Rick's on the internet that is quite flawed but the ones in this book are dead on. Love! Love! Love this book!

Nonsense
Says little to nothing about the film. I was looking for criticism but it cannot be found in the jumble presented here.

WARNING!
You better already have the screenplay. This book does not include one, so it's absolutely useless without one.

plenty of trivia
There are many books available that deal in various ways with this popular movie. To appreciate this one, consider information about movies to exist on a continuum, from verified facts and plot summaries to trivia to minutia (the operative and subjective difference between trivia and minutia is that I appreciate trivia). "The Scene by Scene Casablanca" is mostly interesting trivia. As such, it will appeal to those who love the movie, and likely bore those who consider Casablanca to be merely solidly entertaining. On the negative side of things, the author strays into minutia at times (a discussion of songs originally planned for the movie, but deleted; is the Paris hat shop located next to the jeweler or the book shop, what exactly is on a poster that appears in the background of a scene or two, and so on). There are also a few statements about the history of Casablanca and North Africa in WWII that could profit from references, but this is clearly not an academic endeavor, and the reader is left to ascertain their veracity. For the most part the author comes across as a fan who is fascinated by all aspects of this acclaimed movie. An adoring look, devoid of critical perspectives, at a fascinating classic movie.
