Dorman 38540 Tailgate Cable - 21-1/8 In. Compatible with Select Ford Models, 2 Pack

I put a 5th wheel tailgate, which did not come with cables, on my 2016 F350. And since I did not want to take them off of my factory tailgate, I purchased these. They were the correct length and easy enough to install. I would have given them 5 stars but because of the lack of instructions and the locking tab being too long, I knocked off a star. And for those of you wondering, the limiting washer goes in-between the cable mount and the tailgate.

I just got a 2011 F-250 and one of the tailgate cables was broken. Dorman is a name I know so I ordered this set even though it was slightly more expensive than the generic cables for sale on Amazon. Installation was easy but... I don't get how the cable limit washers they include are supposed to work. I reused the Ford washers instead. In addition, the clip that keeps the cable connected on the bed side is a bit too long and required some bending with a pliers to secure. Minor issues but worth mentioning.

Cable seemed Ok, but the screw size head is much smaller than the original & the locking washer is very light and cheap. Therefore; did not use the screws or the washer and used the originals since they are much higher quality..

The metal tab that keeps the anchor attached to the bed of the truck is a little long. You need to be prepared to bend it over itself; otherwise the anchor won't hold and work properly. Everything else is fine, GREAT QUALITY CONSTRUCTION. I had to replace the missing cables on my used=Facebook purchase of a air-flow fifth wheel tailgate.

Had to bend the top retention clip a lot in order to install but would bend it back to finish install.

They work fine, but I had to trim the locking tab. Not a problem but not a 5

It said direct fit which it did but now my tail gate doesn’t open all the way it’s too short so I need longer ones
