Is there another way to connect this monitor to my laptop without needing to download software? Company laptop does not allow external downloads.

This device will not work on a laptop without the driver. Unless you work for a small company where it will approve drivers dont get it. Returning.

Anybody had any experience using this with a 17 inch monitor? wouldn't the placement of the magnets need to be off-center?

Don't have any experience with 17'', however based on my experience in using with 15'', the sidetrack screen may appear somewhat smaller. Works great with 15'' though.

Is this compatible with Apple Silicon Macbooks?

This product did not work with my Mac drivers. Returned it.
