Brilliant
Loved this. Easy to use, guides are great but come off a little to easily. Used along with Montana knife companies YouTube video to finally understand how to sharpen knife and do so effectively. Brilliant

Stone grits are not as advertised
I have a few whetstones and polishing cloths and know when a stone is 'fine'. This product is labelled as having 1000 grit coarse and 6000 fine yet the actual stone is labelled as MEDIUM and FINE. Neither grit is as the same texture as my other stones of the same grade. The rest of the kit is OK and, thankfully, my other stones do fit otherwise Amazon would be getting another return.

This unit has transformed my kitchen knife sharpening experience. Most people, if they have any sharpeners at all, use crappy pull through sharpeners with carbide blades. They are quick, easy, and idiot proof. They also sharpen unevenly, get your knives just sharp enough to cut, and remove a lot of material and will eventually deform the shape of your blades. This is a “proper” sharpening system, and for the price it’s the best basic setup that should be standard in every kitchen. My set of Sabatier kitchen knives we’ve had since I was a kid have never been this sharp. I also have a large and always growing collection of knives, from huge choppers down to thin slicy pocket folders, and I wanted something for them with more capability than the excellent Worksharp Guided Field Sharpener, which has been my go to sharpener for more than a year but is really meant as a portable unit for repairing your knives away from home. The Benchstone has more real estate to work with (6 x 1-1/2” vs 4 x 1”), and the ability to switch out the guides so different knives can be sharpened at different angles if necessary. 20 degrees is a good all around angle that provides the best combination of cutting ability and durability, but some knives, like boning and filet knives, will require a more acute angle. The Benchstone comes with 20 and 25 degree angle guides, but you can purchase 15 and 17 degree guides separately from the Worksharp website. If these were included with this unit it would be a perfect beginners sharpening system; the fact that I had to go and make a separate purchase on their website (I also bought a spare fine diamond plate) and pay for shipping was annoying, and it may be disqualifying for some people who are willing to pay $50 but not $65, before tax. But I still don’t think you will find anything better, more versatile, or easier to use for the price than this. Even if you’re not a knife junky like me, this is a perfect one and done purchase to take care of all your knives. Just be warned, if your knives are dull and neglected from years of use, clanking around with other silverware, and being sharpened with cheap crappy sharpeners, that initial proper sharpening will take a while. After that though, it will be much easier as long as you stay on top of it. A few strokes on the ceramic or fine diamond plate every so often will be all you need to maintain sharp knives. Just get it and you won’t need anything else.

After looking online reviews for various types of sharpening devices, this one kept coming back to me as the most convenient and quickest method to sharpen my knives ( kitchen, pocket knives etc). Though it requires practice to get it right at first I believe it will be the one I will use the most. Other more elaborate methods will undoubtedly make an excellent sharpening tool, they also take longer to set up, take apart and adjust. I like this method for its’ simple and quick process of sharpening or honing in a few minutes. I noticed right away that it was removing material very well and then rotate to honing and it’s done. I really like it and highly recommend it.

This review is for the "Work Sharp Benchtop Whetstone Knife Sharpener - For Knives & Edged Tools - Kitchen, Pocket, & Fillet Knives" I've sharpened many knives and tools over the years, and I bought this unit so others in the household could successfully put a razor sharp edge on kitchen knives. The one thing about dull knives is they aren't safe to use. This sharpening system is the real deal, and greatly simplifies getting a great edge on your knives. The whetstone (2-sided: 1000 and 6000 grit) sits in a tray with the angle guides at each end. The guides are held in place magnetically. The guides are 15 degrees on one side and 17 degrees on the other which covers pretty much anything you might want to sharpen in your kitchen (exception shears which you can freehand). They also sell, through their customer service, 20/25 degree angle guides for outdoor type knives. The sharpener stays put in use due to a combination of size, weight and rubber grip strips on the bottom. It pays to watch the Work Sharp video on usage. It wasn't the way I learned to sharpen many years ago, but I found it excellent to get up to speed honing wickedly sharp edges and the video was useful for the others in my household. Using the sharpener is pretty simple. First soak the stone in water for at least 5 minutes, then place your knife against the angle guide on one end of the stone, then 'sweep' the knife across the stone being careful to hold the angle from the guide. Then repeat the process from the other end to sharpen the other side. When satisfied with the edge, switch to the 6000 grit to put a very fine edge on the blade. If at any point the stone surface appears dry, sprinkle some water on it. The whetstone is large enough to easily sweep a 10-inch chef's knife across its face. It works well with both carbon steel and stainless steel knives. Work Sharp is an 4th generation USA (Bend, OR) company. It's clear that they spent the time to develop a well designed and implemented product that is easy to use and durable. You can spend a lot more and get a less effective system than this at about $40.
