Great light for planted aquariums.
I purchased this light because this manufacturer has earned a good reputation with its aquarium lighting. This light in particular is one of the brightest I've found for this price ($47). The 30-36in light fits perfectly on a 20 gallon long tank. You dont need this light if you dont have a planted aquarium. which are less bright. Im super happy with the color spectrum & strength, ive noticed the plants have noticeable growth after 1 wk. The timer works as it should. Worth noting is the initial set up. Many reviews mentioned the complexity of setting up the built in timer. I ignored the reviews, thinking "how bad could it be?". Well, let's just say you won't be able to get by without reading the directions. The light comes set for 100% strength from 9 to 5, but you can adjust the duration as well as the intensity. Youll need the directions because theres a button that youd think means "back" but its actually "undo" so if you hit that, all the settings you've just inputted will be erased. Because of all the adjustability, initial set up is a little excessive, but thats the cost of having said adjustability. Once you've set it, which im embarrassed to admit took 10 minutes, you dont have to mess with it again. This light doesn't have a remote or pre-set modes, such as cloudy, moonlight, thunderstorm, etc. Great light for anyone seeking a straightforward light on a timer, for planted aquariums.

Amazing on the first day
So I just got it, I cant attest to the durability of it yet. However, it is an amazing light so far. It can get really bright and has great lows. The daylight setting makes it very hands off. I would recommend this light for freshwater aquariums. The programming of the timer is not intuitive but you'll get it. Its as simple as setting on top of your aquarium so the installation is really easy. As for build quality, its very durable and has all the functionality that I need.

I love these lights!
I have 7 fish tanks now and 4 of them have these lights. The programming ability is VERY cool. I have them all sync'ed (since you input the current time) and so they all act at the same time! On one, I even had to adjust the brightness down about 25% as algae was building up. Algae was nearly gone in a week and still has enough light for the plants. Great lights with the easy to use programmable remote. I don't have a lot of experience with other brands but did get one of those Hygger ones with the 3 buttons, when my buddy gave me his whole setup. I've yet to research or read how to set it (LOL) and just guess about the time I want it to transition. Anyway, all my plants seem to be doing very well with this lighting. An enhancement request... the wire frame extendy things that reach to either side of your tank are low to the water surface. I would like a set of wire frames that would put them about 6 to 8 inches OVER the tank. Not sure how they can engineer that cost effectively. What I did was pull them out, take it to my bench vise, and just bent them where I wanted... but that changes how they fit to the edge because of the bends. One drawback, if I'm to nit-pick. We had some bad storms a few days ago and we lost power. When the power even glitches, these things reset their time to midnight (I think it was) but didn't seem to lose any of the custom settings... But is that even a problem? Maybe future models could have a little backup battery supply for this sort of event. I've heard places like California can experience many brown-outs, so I imagine it can become tedious to have to always reset the time. Doesn't happen often here, so no worries. So if power glitches at night, I guess it's good to reset to midnight so all your tanks don't suddenly come to life while you're sleeping! LOL Hope that helps. Get them, you won't be disappointed!

Nice Aquarium Light
I installed this light on our 40 gallon bow-front aquarium and it looks great. These tanks are tall and they need a strong light. The light is strong enough to make the whole tank shine. The programming works well also, although you need to read the instructions to know how to set it. The cables are long enough for my setup, but not too long. (Don't make the shorter, I needed them at full length.) Things I like: * Color balance and ability to adjust blue separately * Light strength (more than enough for my planted freshwater tank) * Night time slow sunset and moonlight programs. * Packaging and assembly is robust * Controller display is easy to read Things that could be improved (took off 1 star): * Memory when the power goes out - it should keep time for at least a few hours * Retain programming when power goes out - I know I'll need to program it all again when the next snowstorm kills the power on us * Dimming is linear, not logarithmic. People observe luminance on a logarithmic scale. The dimming adjustment should be exponential so that 50% level looks 50% as bright as 100%. I adjusted the white from 100 -75 and could not even see any change. Otherwise this is a solid product. I'm sure they will solve the time retention problem soon. (All my little timer modules for my other devices remember the time when the power glitches. ) It's a nice product and I am happy I purchased it!

Awesome product!!!
I have 2 of these lights (different sizes), the quality of the light is just fantastic though on both. Packed with features and has tons of light. Take some time to figure out, wish setting up was a little easier. Other than that though this is a awesome light and great value!

This affordable light is very bright for the price you’re paying. Definitely +1 for value. The tank I have it on is 16 inches deep for reference. To turn the light off you must hold down the “m” button in the middle for three seconds, unlike a conventional dedicated on/off switch. To add on, the build is quite sturdy, does not feel cheap. The skyled plus (labeled SP in the attached photo) is a tad bit brighter compared to the classicLED PLUS (labeled CP). Both are more than adequate for growing plants 100%. I like how the skyled plus is dimmable, useful if you find it too bright for the fish or you’re experiencing algae growth due to the intensity. On the other hand, the classicLED plus is just on or off. For this reason I would pick the skyled plus over the latter. To add on, it is also nearly half the width of the classicLED plus, thus taking less room on top. Good for the minimalist look. The unit does get quite hot but nothing to be alarmed or concerned about. Final rating: 9.5/10 I don’t have any complaints. Perhaps a built-in timer would be nice, but for the price point that’s asking for a lot!

Seems a well built quality light. Purchased for an aquarium, until that is purchased, set this bucket up for my pond plants. Versatility is great. Need to protect from getting wet..

A serious aquarium hobbyist suggested this product to me. My old light burned out and he suggested instead of trying to replace it, I should buy this. I did and I was really happy about it. I can adjust the brightness and change from a pretty azure colour to bright white, and step the degree of brightness to suit the time of day. It seems well built and it arrived pretty quickly. It took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to scrap the old light and put the LED light in position in the old frame. As a bonus, I've been told that it will support growing real plants. We've had plastic up till now because the old light wouldn't support real plant growth. Highly recommend this product and seller.

Love these lights in my vivariums. Low profile, dimmable, colour profile choices. Plants seem to be growing well. Great value for the money.

I've bought two of these lights - one 24" and one 36" ~5 years ago. I sold the smaller one a couple years ago, but I still have the 36" one on a ~35 gallon long (European dimensions) planted aquarium. It's bright enough to grow dwarf sagittaria fairly densely, and pearl weed without it getting leggy. I'm sure you could basically grow anything under this light, it's really bright, I just haven't tried and I just personally don't keep the light on full blast cause I have fish that prefer dim light. The light has held up great over time, it's going strong and none of the LEDs have gone out even after 5 years. A couple complaints: 1. The top side of the light has grooves that collect dust and hard-water build up. It's really time consuming and difficult to clean out and I've given up and it just sort of permanently looks gross now. My other large light has a smooth top side and it's so much easier to keep clean, I just wipe it with a paper towel and sometimes use a touch of vinegar, and looks way better. But in terms of brightness and controlling the colour - my Nicrew one cannot be beat, just wish it didn't look so crusty and dusty. 2. The "adjustable docking legs" can be pulled fully out - as in they can fully detach from the light if pulled out too far. I think this is part of the design, since some may not want the docking legs and it's easy to put them back in if you do pull them all the way out. If you're using the light with the legs fully extended with no tank cover, you could run the risk of having the legs pull fully out accidentally and the light falling into the tank and electrocuting you and all your fish. Also when the legs are full extended, the light tends to sag down slightly. It's just a bit sketchy. I personally got a glass cover and removed the legs and the light now sits directly on the glass cover with no issue and no risk of the light falling in the water. Overall, I would order this light again if needed since it is a great option at a comparably affordable price.
