As a child, I remember going to the library ...
As a child, I remember going to the library and checking out the Tintin books and being drawn into the adventure, wishing I could be Tintin. Now in my late 20's, I have decided to purchase all the Tintin books so that when my 2 year old is a bit older, I can share the world of Tintin with him :-D

Decent (if dated) romp across China
Among the earlier Tintin adventures, this books sees our young reporter battle both corrupt officials and opium smugglers in China. The adventure zips along confidently and with an optimistic enthusiasm that never fails to put a smile on my face. Villains get bonked over the head, guns never seem to do more than graze people and Snowy continues to save the day. It's great entertainment, though at times the various diabolical schemes can be a little hard to follow.Unfortunately, while The Blue Lotus is a wonderful example of uncomplicated fun that's hard to find these days, it's also tainted with the sheen of casual racial stereotyping common to fiction from the period. It's certainly not on the same level as Tintin in the Congo, and there's even a section where Tintin explains how foolish the prejudices of the time were, but it can still make for uncomfortable reading. Certainly, if I was going to buy this for a child I would want to at least put things in some sort of historical context.

A great gift
It was a gift for my Grandson. It arrived just before his birthday, brilliant as I had left it late in ordering it. He loves it!
