DynaTrap DT2000XLPSR Large Mosquito & Flying Insect Trap – Kills Mosquitoes, Flies, Wasps, Gnats, & Other Flying Insects – Protects up to 1 Acre

I live in South Florida and mosquitoes make it impossible to be in my backyard during the Spring and Summer. I purchased the Dynatrap to be able to enjoy my patio. For those considering this unit, please know that it does not kill anything. Instead, the blue light attracts bugs and an inner fan draws the bugs into a chamber. Once the chamber is filled, you will need to empty it. I’ve had this for 2 years at the time of this review. I leave my unit plugged in 24/7. In 2 years, I’ve only emptied the chamber 4 times. I’ve replaced the bulbs about 3 times. Because this isn’t a big killer, some insects in the chamber may be alive when it’s time to empty, so I will turn off the unit in the morning and empty it later in the day. This allows for most, if not all, of the insects to die. The chamber gets a little gross, but I can clean it with a wet cloth. This works better than an electric bug zapper! I had one and it didn't control mosquitoes. Why am I reviewing now? Well, my unit was unplugged for about a week while doing some remodeling. When I was able to return to my backyard, I was swarmed my mosquitoes. I plugged in the unit and within a day, I could again enjoy the comfort of my backyard. Is this an investment? Yes, but it does exactly what it’s supposed to do. This is 10/10

It's bigger than you think - it's definitely a large trap. It's not a zapper, so if you get satisfaction (I do lol) out of hearing the bugs get zapped, then this isn't for you. It is a pretty effective trap, though admittedly, I haven't used it outdoors - yet. We had a bit of a fruit fly / gnat issue that we just couldn't seem to wrangle, despite trying tons of methods others have suggested. I set it up on the kitchen counter and set it to work. Surprisingly, it outpaced a glass of wine, which these bugs are particularly annoying about... we were having to place coasters on top of our glasses to keep them out. It wasn't until I took it outside and was able to see through the screen on the bottom, just how many it had captured. I will say that indoors, it's a little noisy - slightly noisier than the fan on my gaming computer. In its new home (the original intent), outside on the pergola, the noise isn't nearly as noticeable. I cannot comment on any smell emitting from it, as I couldn't detect any. I also cannot see how it produces carbon dioxide, as the body of the unit is plastic. I'm no scientist, nor chemist, so I can't speak to the titanium dioxide coating that the manufacturer claims. Bulbs appear easily accessible, though expensive, if you get their name brand bulbs. There are other, less expensive options out there for replacement bulbs. If you place this near the front door it will trap mosquitoes and moths but they also attract a lot of beetles and for some reason they end up dying all around the front door floor outside.

Couple things. When ordering, keep in mind, that this covers 1 acre, but the unit itself will be in the center of that acre. So if your property is 1 acre and you set this up in a back corner, it will not cover all of your 1 acre. I strongly recommend the scent lures Dynatrap sells. Toss one of those in the basket and it definitely wont disappoint. If setting it up outside in your yard, YOU MUST PLUG IT INTO A GFCI OUTLET! Can't stress that enough. If something happens and water causes it to short out, the GFCI will trip and kill power to the unit. Absolutely a MUST for safety. Also, if using an extension cord outside for it, I also recommend using a waterproof cover for the cord connection. It is two halves that screw together with a gasket that covers the prongs on the inside. I took it a step further and wrapped some super 33 electrical tape around the entire cover as well to help keep water out. Now, for some context, our house is on a 1.5 acre lot that is all woods, our neighbors have 2 ponds, and the woods behind our property have huge puddles of standing water, so yeah, mosquitoes were a huge problem. I got one of these units about a month and a half ago when the avergae temperature in Michigan was still in the low 50's and remained that way up until two weeks ago. I put one of the recommended Dynatrap lures in the basket and within hours of setting it up, it started to accumulate pesky bugs like biting flies, some mosquitoes that were out early, etc. As the average temperature over the last week or two climbed into the 70's, this thing really started to fill up. After about 3 weeks in the mid 50's and a week in the 60's/70's, it was about half full. However, I could tell where the spots were on our property that this was not covering. I thought, "we have 1.5 acres and this covers an acre, how are there this many spots it isnt covering?" Then it dawned on me that this covers 1 acre, but it would be in the middle of that acre. So if you have it offset to one corner of your property, it wont cover only your property. Make sense? So I ordered 3 more and new lures and lights for all of them for when it comes time to change those, and put them on the 4 corners of our property and holy crap is it a world of difference. Also, been using the small Dynatrap sticky night light things in our house for years and they work awesome too. These DT2000XL's and the night light sticky traps for inside the house are fantastic products and woyld recommend them to anyone!

Be advised this will not work in the UK as it is not compatible with UK power supply. The manufacturers website does not make this clear.

This is made for the USA only. Unless you separately purchase an outdoor, weatherproof power adapter, this is totally useless. Ordering this wasted weeks of time during a sensitive part of the mosquito season. Considering how extremely expensive this is, you'd expect to be sent a complete, working product. Massively disappointed.

Obwohl dieser Artikle über amazon.de verkauft wird, findet man nirgens HInweise oder Produktspezifikationen, ob man dieses Teil überhaupt bei 240V betreiben kann. Die Angaben auf dem Produkt sagen nur 120V AV - das ist der US-Standard und damit für den europäischen Markt ohne speziellen Trafo nicht nutzbar. Amazon-Support ist ratlos. Anfrage direkt beim Hersteller noch unbeantwortet - das ist frustrierend.

Lors de notre achat, le descriptif sur Amazon n'indiquait pas la tension à utiliser pour ce produit. Surprise! C'est un produit US fonctionnant sur 110V, donc à nous d'acheter un transfo pour l'utiliser. Mystère! Depuis notre achat, le descriptif a changé et indique la tension 110v. Mais pour nous, c'est trop tard!

We purchased this in the UAE and was sent an item that has a US voltage. (UAE is 220 W). Disappointing to have to return as this will not work without a voltage converter. It should NOT be advertised on the UAE Amazon site if it is not compatible with the voltage in the country.
